Whats the biggest LCD screen that does 1280 x 1024?

Not TFT's I don't think, it would look horrible.

EDIT - Maybe some LCD TV's would, but they'd look even worse.

Why would it look horrible? I've seen a few 19" running 1280 x 1024, and it looks good IMO....

Now if only I could find one an inch or 2 bigger. :D

Isn't it obvious? Larger TFT size and small rez means overly large pixels and loss of sharpness and major jaggies. I don't think there's many people would disagree that it would look pretty damn sucky.

Actually, they tend to look fine as long as it is the native res, for example using a 26 inch LCD TV @ 1366 x 768 looks fine.

If it was a 24" screen or something like that, I'd agree, but the difference between 19" and 20" isn't huge is it? Looks like I'm gonna have to go for a 19" then... :(

Of course we're talking about native res. But not sure how you can say that 1280*1024 on a 21" screen would look fine... the pixel size would be even larger than that of a 19" monitor. It's pretty pointless really, and it's also why higher resolutions were invented, so that larger screens looked in proportion with what was displayed.

What graphics card have you got?

x800...

But I really want 1280x1024 as I'm running a 21" CRT at 1280 x 1024 @100hz, and planning on going for a dual monitor setup.

A 20" LCD is the same screen size as a 21" CRT. :)

Indeed, but they look very different. :)

If I were you i'd just go with 2x 19" screens then... or upgrade your GPU and get a 20.1" widescreen instead. :D

Based on your other thread you're going C2D which means PCI-e (well, likely...).

I would get a 20/22 inch widescreen and an x1950pro which can be had for £80 now :)

I can't really afford 2 x 19's right now, as I've only just upgraded to c2d. :( The idea is to keep the CRT for gaming and have it as the main screen, and have the LCD as the 2nd screen.

I could then run older games at 1600x1200, and newer ones at 1024x768 if I have to, as every res is native on a CRT. :D

I think a 19" will do tho... There isn't a huge difference in size, and I find LCD is often nice for web browsing and office apps, which is the only time I'd be using the dual monitors, so it's all good. :)

It's a real shame they don't make a 20" screen that's 1280 x 1024 native res, even tho I'd be the only one to buy it by the sounds of it ;)

Having owned a 19" LCD, I really wouldn't want to see 1280x1024 on anything bigger. 19" looks decent although the pixels are a bit big. Having moved to a 20" widescreen (1680x1050), images are much sharper and it just looks so much better overall. No idea why you'd want that same resolution on a panel even bigger than a 19" - wouldn't look good at all.

Why not get a different resolution monitor? If you're running your 19" crt @ 1280x1024 your stretching the image as it should be 1280x960 for a 4:3 set. I ran 2 monitors using dual desktop at different resolutions (one 1600x1200 crt and a 1280x1024 17" lcd) and its fine. Just make sure you grab something like ultramon as it is much better than the os for handling and hotkeys come in handy.

22" / 24" and 30" screens can do it, where or not it will look good is another oppionion

my Dell 22" can go down to 800x600 (not 640x480)
