Say you typed command hello you would see 'hello' printed in big letters.

Do you mean ASCII art? Where the image (or text in this case) is made up of standard characters?

You can't have dynamic fonts/sizes in a console....

Sorry, yes- the large text is made up of dashes/pipes/etc

slightly OT but has anyone seen the VLC ASCII art output plugin/mode? it's quite amusing

Not seen the VLC one but I've seen Movix play films in ASCII art... I watched the Matrix like this and, as you say, it is very amusing.
