Hi, my mates built a new pc.

Spec:

Asus P5LD2 SE/C 775 board
Core 2 duo E4500 2.2ghz/standard intel heatsink
kingston 2gb dual ddr2

What kind of temperature should he expect for his cpu?

Anything from 22 to 32 on idle I would have thought.. Depends on the case cooling and the location it's in.

What have you got?

cheers ill let him know. Well he's still setting it up, last time I checked he was finishing formatting. I told him to check his temps after, it's the first time he's built a PC.

The stock intel cooler is pretty good. Its quiet and runs fine on stock. You can even overclock with it. Just not as much as a decent aftermarket HSF.

So it should be ok then?

He's not gonna overclock it, the most intensive thing it will be used for is to convert video files to dvd format.

I'm using the stock intel cooler on an E6600 with an Antec P182 case. My temps are around 41 idle, 58 load, on stock speeds. Strangely though my temps are exactly the same when the CPU is overclocked to 3GHz and the volts upped to 1.35v. Still going to invest in a new HSF though, and will probably lap my CPU.

I just played an hour of COD 4.

I'm wondering if you are reading the posts you have asked for??

I've already said that your temps are ok. Even on load. They might not meet the intel recommendations but they are still fine.

I've also said that it might be worth checking your basic settings.. Run CPU-Z and coretemp etc.. Make sure the Vcore is set to the correct voltage. If possible, check the case airflow as I described above.
