Very little mate, search the forums for 226cw there are a few threads near the top of the search that outline the differences.
It has been said the extra £30 isn't really worth it as many consider the 226bw to still be a superior monitor.

What might that actually be? Is it by any chance saturation of colour as you near the edges of the monitor coming from centre?
No, that's just the colours fading due to limited viewing angles. If you don't want that then don't go with a TN panel. Colour gamut is what percentage of the colour spectrum the screen can display (usually compared to a particular standard like ntsc colour gamut - so you'll often see numbers over 100% but it doesn't mean the screen can do all possible colours).
