whats the fastest / best 500gb ?

i keep hearing people rav about the samsung spinpoints ? im usually a seagate man my self

i was planning on 2x 500 gbs raid 0 for my new rig

any recommmendations ?

segate 7200.10 are very fast

as are the Western Digital RE16s

samsungs arent the fastest outright

but offer the best performance with low noise. ie you dont loose a lot of performance with samsung, but you do loose a lot of noise.

It depends a bit on what you're after. Currently the WD AAKS drives are the fastest 500Gb HDDs, they're a fraction quicker than the Seagate 7200.10s.

However if you're looking to do this in the next few days it's probably worth checking out the Hitachi T7K500s that are on special this week, they're around the same speed as the Seagates, maybe a shade slower.

Personally decideing between a t7k500 and some aaks, as rpstewart said they're on "this week only" and a very good price atm

I used 2x500GB Seagate 7200.10 - it very fast run and lots faster when boot up Vista x64...

On Storagereview site the WD AAKS seems to win in the synthetic benchmarks but the Hitachi t7k500 is the fastest in the PCmark/real world tests ?

I dont see the Hitachi mentioned around here though
