What's the first song you remember liking?

Actually... I just remembered mikehunt79, I was 8 or something my dad is a zappa fanatic and he played 'the muffin man' non-stop. And I liked it very much. Awesome solo.

Muffin Man was an awesome tune, in fact when I was around 13 I did a jungle remix of it using my Amiga... :D Zappa was a genius, it's a shame he's not around anymore but his tunes are still inspiring IMO.

I don't like admiting to the kind of crap I listened to a few years ago, I'm certainly not going to admnit to whatever pop trash I first liked...eugh, gives me a shiver just thinking about it.

Actualy, I just realised, I think the first song I remember liking was in fact The Magic Roundabout theme.

I think I had it on tape.

Can't be as bad as Bucks Fizz :o.

BONGO FURY! One of my favourites. It is in a tie between all his albums they're all pretty much ingenius works of musical art to me. :p I've got a lot more to listen to my dad got pretty much all his albums then gave them to me... :D

Yes, zappa was a genius. I went to see his son play in Edinburgh. 'zappa plays zappa' :D

I used to have a tape which I think was a promotion from Twix (the chocolate bar) and it had all sorts of 80s classics on it, French Kissing in the USA was one song (no idea who it's by) and there were other things on there too, myself and my brother and sister (who are 9 and 5 years older than me respectively) used to listen to this tape on our walkmans. (edit: found it, haha http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TWIX-16-trax-...s_GL?hash=item5d267b835e&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14)

When I was a bit older, 6 to 9 years of age I used to always buy singles (tapes) from Our Price, with help from mum obviously :) I remember liking Swingout Sister, Alish'a Attic, No Doubt, Cast, as well as Blur, Oasis and Pulp - from my sister's influence :D I liked Gangsta's Paradise (Coolio) as well and bought a double tape Rap collection (I asked for it for like my 8th birthday I think lol)

The band who had the biggest impact on me growing up was definitely the Beatles, my sister's boyfriend at the time got me into them, I was in year 5, I used to sit on the computer (didn't have a CD player at the time) and listen to them for hours, I didn't have headphones either so used to put one of the small pc speakers up to my ear so I could listen quietly as our pc was in the front room. I listened to them pretty much non stop until I started high school, despite all of my friends thinking it was hilarious I liked such an old band :) I've always been interested in music from an early age, it's always been there.

There's a website about those Mazda Bongo cars called "Bongo Fury" :D It's one of the better albums, I also really like carolina hardcore ecstasy which I think is on the same album. Joe's Garage is also very good, can't go wrong with watermelon on easter hay.

Was his son called dwezil? Was the gig any good?

The first song I remember liking was "Remember you're a Womble". It was the first record I bought, with "The Wombles of Wimbledon" on the B side.

I can't specifically remember the first song - it was almost certainly something by Abba - but I definitely remember my first album:

Geoff Love And His Orchestra: Star Wars And Other Space Themes

Even as a nipper I remember feeling slightly cheated by the infringement-dodging artwork. Check out that Star Trek "Enterprise" :D

EDIT:

And in case you want to know how it sounded, here's his Space 1999 theme, all wah-wah and brass stabs like someone left the funklock open. Also nice to see that my boyhood crush on Barbara Bain wasn't misguided :D

Yeah Dweezil zappa! They were amazing! They had this female playing saxomophone and keyboard who is ridiculously good at it. Probably best gig I've been to. We sang bobby brown for the band the entire crowd done the entire song. :p

Carolina hardcore ecstasy is the first song on the album I think. Joes garage is great, packard goose and lucille favourite songs on either disc. You should give hot rats a listen to, purely instrumental. :D

One of these:

Kylie Minogue - I should be so Lucky
Eastenders theme tune (this was my first vinyl record)
Kenny Loggins - Danger Zone
Yazz - The Only Way is Up

Every Little Thing she does is Magic - the Police.

The first album I ever bought was the Police: Greatest Hits on cassette, because I thought the cover looked cool. I was about seven and that song just enchanted me, and I listened to it all the time for about fifteen years. :p
