What's the latest excuse...

...for petrol prices to continue going up?

Thats another 3p in the last few weeks and yet i've not heard any mention of any world events to drive this.

do you have a tv

You could pick any of these to start with :
Israel's military strikes against Lebanon, an escalation in the crisis over Iran's nuclear programme/a breakdown of talks between North Korea and South Korea and suspected pipeline explosions in Nigeria.

Always makes me laugh how the pump prices get affected instantly when the actual fuel coming through them was bought at normal rates, weeks beforehand.

It's like any old drama instantly makes the fuel in the tanks under the forecourt more valuable.

Funny that.

Exactly what I was going to post before scrolling down.

and takes ages to go back down even when price per barrel goes down..

Well this is it, it NEVER seems to go down any more. Just goes up and up and up

This country had a strike at 80p a litre a few years back, my local station says 95p a litre now and we have some of the best prices here down south.

How quickly this country adapts.

I'll be honest, I'm sceptical about the Pipeline card. A company I'm involved in did release a card working on similar principles to the Pipeline card - giving personal customers discounts, and within about 48 hours of its launch it was pulled at the request of the major oil suppliers and became a corporate scheme instead. I can't go into any more detail, but suffice to say I'd be amazed if Pipeline and similar schemes ever get off the ground.

I cant see how the pipeline card would ever work...

its not like petrol is a luxury item, you pretty much *have* to buy it, so why should the oil companies need to tempt you to buy petrol.

The only effect i can see this having is people switching petrol brands.. thats about it

However how many of these countries export oil into the world markets then?

Pretty much all of them  hence why we have such a great interest in the countries. Exporting oil is the main source of income for many countries in the middle-east.

If one supplier agrees, they are almost guarenteed a large and ever growing customer base. These people will search out that brand wherever they are, and soon friend and relatives will join. Its potientially a lucrative business deal, but its difficult to get such an excerise off the ground.

too true - and none of them will do it, so they're safe knowing none of the others will either.
