As the title says really. I'm looking to try my hand at VR racing for the winter and wanted to ask what's everyone's steering wheel of choice?

Thank you!

Have you tried VR yet? I tried it round a friend’s house playing Gran Turismo and for me the motion sickness was unpleasant.

Yeah I had to take baby steps to adjust.

5 minute blasts, fan blowing in my face and a ginger tablet half an hour before playing helps to ease you in.

I've tried many casual setups, i.e. chair and wheel on a desk, or even on your lap and it's just rubbish compared to a dedicated rig..

You don't have to spend a fortune since with VR, you only need a seat, steering wheel and pedals, so can start fairly cost effectively, especially using second hand gear..

I bought an ex-demo sim rig frame from a well known motorsport company who used it for marketing purposes.. £80.. then a pair of Honda Civic Type R seats for £100, I sold one on for £80 and just made some wooden mounts to mount the remaining one to the sim rig frame, and to this day I still use that setup..

Sitting in approximately the right position helps immensely, I hardly had to do much to get used to 3 hour stints doing iRacing heats.. never had a problem when racing.. its the sudden helicopter cam at the end of a race I struggle with!

I've stuck with mainly Fanatec as their eco-system is so modular, I still have original CSW V1 Pedals that are on my CSL DD 8NM wheel base with the XBOX Hub and a steering wheel off a racing caterham I have had since my CSW v2 Wheel base.. so it's all grown with me..

It's either a pre-owned ones for roughly £130ish-£175 or brand new. Cheapest price brand new so far is £192
Personally for a £62 price difference i'd go brand new (i bought mine new), these devices might have taken a hammering and have been around a fair few years. That said, you do get buyers protection on 2nd hand goods on Ebay. If you can afford it i think i'd still buy new though.

Yeah.. Your right. I was probably going to buy new for an extra £60 quid. Might even hold fire until Black Friday/cyber Monday.. it's so close now and there might be a larger saving to be had.

I did a quick google search, that £192 price you've found was cheaper than i could find. Was that for the complete set (wheel/pedals/shifter)? The shifter isn't essential as u have a paddle shift on the wheel but it's nice to have when the cars you're driving have a traditional gearbox.

No. Sadly not. It was just the steering wheel and pedals.

I'm quite impulsive, so it's difficult for me not to want to buy it right away..

But it's only 48 days till Black Friday. I'd kick myself if during that time you could get wheel, pedals and shifter all for around the same price.

I've got a G920, pedals and shifter mounted to a folding Playseat Challenge.

I'm not an avid sim racer, I just like to play for the experience of feeling like I'm in a racing car.

Even with a relatively cheap 920 which has a notchy feel to the feedback and a basic racing seat, the feeling of actually 'being there' is incredible.

I ordered the Thrustmaster RS GT T300 yesterday as it was on sale. That’s supposed to be a very good wheel. A lot of my friends though started with the G29.

@tyke_ Lowest price for wheel, pedals and gear shift is £208.. Should I pounce or wait till November? I doubt it's gonna go any lower by much?
are there any sales in november (when is black friday?), if it's in november it might be worth waiting. but £208 is a good price imo, i'm sure i paid more than that a few years ago for mine and things were cheaper then. if you think the £208 price may go up i'd pounce.

24th November is Black Friday.

I think I'm going to hold out. I'm hopeful that it might be even less by then.
