What's the most retro PC you could build to run a browser + Word

stuff having an old piece of junk like that about cluttering up the place. if you're feeling nostalgic, i'd install windows 95/98 in vmware/virtualbox. :)

I have settled on a 486/Win 95 and have started scavenging for parts. Yes, there will be problems but that's all part of it. RAM will be something in the region of 32/64 MB. I have already found a CPU + mobo [though the CPU's a SX1 only...].

My only queries at this stage are

- What PSU would be good for this kind of build?
- What form factor case should be used? [AT?]

In a couple of weeks I'll start a new topic with pics.

Just out of interest as no-one else seems to have asked, but... why?

Why do people spend years rebuilding classic cars, why do people still play on old Commodore C64s and why did Wayne Rooney pay to do those things with that granny? Some people just get satisfaction / nostalgia value out of tinkering with stuff from the past :p

Got a 266 via laptop, it seems to do fine. Obviously will fall over and cry over flash, or silly amount of java script, as both are rubbish.

Get a P166MMX and overclock it, I have distant memories of putting 3.3v through one back in the day (on a heatsink with no fan).

I ran a P150 (2.5x60MHz) at 187.5MHz on the unofficial 75MHz bus that Abit offered back when they were great boards for overclocking. It benched faster than the P200 in most tests due to the higher bus speed.
