You could just as well go to gcw and get a crack instead for the game in question.

It didn't work for DIRT either and the crack was the only way to get it working.

Even Codemasters gave out a Warez groups crack to get it working (in their patch) LOL 
Well Aftershock was released before Vista so you can't blame Starforce for not working with a product that hadn't been released. I'd like to see devs following the route of some game company (can't remember which now - might have been Nadeo but I don't think so) where they use DRM for the first month after release, then release a patch getting rid of it (and any CD requirements etc). DRM's not going away, but this seems to be the next best thing.
Yeah Starforce is really bad. I got BSODs after it installed and my optical drives would not burn any of my personal data to discs until I removed Starforce and its rootkit level3 system device drivers.
Shockingly poor DRM. Could have even repeated the errors in Starforces russian office to win their £10K prize which they offered to anyone who could demonstrate on their own PC Starforce caused problems but you had to pay your own airfare and bring your own PC to their Russian offices at your own risk!!!
They are a very arrogant company and even threatened to sue PC gaming journos & webmasters who even talked about their DRM and how draconian it is. Ubisoft stopped using it after being threatened with a class action lawsuit and even patched it out of some of their games (Splinter Cell Chaos Theory had it removed).

If I remember correctly, I had issues with Starforce and the sequel to The Longest Journey (the name escapes me at the mo.) The only (official) way around it was to email the manufacturers who (very grudgingly) supplied a sort-of Starforce bypassing code.
