Hey guys

Now I have some cash to spend after Christmas I am wondering what you would upgrade in my system.
System is in sig. but I added a after market cooler and a fan controller. looking to spend about £250 but £300 is the absolute limit.

thanks for any suggestions

Will

*RAM is 8gb teamgroup red 2400MHz
Mobo is a gigabyte 78LMT - USB3

Are you finding it struggles in games atall?

What monitor do you have? May be could upgrade that?

As for upgrading the PC, you're looking at a 'core' upgrade.. Like a 4690k + motherboard.

Monitor is a Benq GW2265. I was wanting to make my move to intel. Would an i7 be worth the extra for the long run?

Is there anything wrong with it? Anything that stops you doing what you need it to do? What's the PC used for, gaming?

Its not so struggling but I want to enhance my experience

No point in wasting money going for Intel right now, the 6350 is pretty decent unless you feel it's too slow which you don't?

What keyboard/mouse do you have? Headphones/speakers? These will "enhance the experience" :D

Got a good mouse and keyboard. Got a good pair of speakers and a pair of corsair vengeance 2100 headphones

Thinking about getting a new monitor that has a higher refresh rate as my 280x passes the 60Hz

Yeah, it all points to a new monitor.

Either a 144hz display or a 1440p would be good. :)

Thatll enhance your experience.

+1

You may need to turn a couple of settings down but'll it'll be a darn sight better than what you have now!

You'd gain nothing from a new motherboard. Especially as you're stuck on the AM3 platform thats moving nowhere, burning your money would be more productive!

A second 280X is an idea but, on a 1080p screen you're not going to see the benefits, plus do you have the PSU grunt?

I would upgrade to a decent monitor or switch over to the Intel side to set you up properly for the next few years.

My CPU is only a year old now and still have a lot of life still in it. My current motherboard only has 1 PCI slot. Would I see a difference on a 144hz monitor instead of a 60hz one which I currently have. Dont want to buy a 1440p monitor as they are too expensive at the moment

As in my sig I do have an 850w PSU

I only use the computer for gaming, internet searching and word. Been looking at benchmarks and an i5 4690k would only get me a few fps more in games that I play. I know Intel is a better platform and I want intel. But I cannot justify spending £300 to get a new mobo and CPU when my current one is only a year old.

As above the monitor would be the best option.

A second 280X would be limited by your CPU and display.

144hz is smoother and a clearer picture. It is able to display up to 144FPS which will get the best from your GPU.

Ok. So firstly I will upgrade my monitor. Then upgrade my mobo/CPU. Then add another 280x. Would that work well?

If you had the option , which one of these mobos would you chose:
YOUR BASKET
1 x Asus Maximus VII Hero Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £161.99
1 x Gigabyte Z97X-UD3H-BK Intel Z97 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £142.99
Total : £314.58 (includes shipping : £8.00).

I would want to go with the ROG one as I am running a black and red scheme but the gigabyte offers the upgrade in 3 years.

Sure would.

Maybe the broad well or skylake i5s will give you a big improvement.

When looking at CPUs though, even though you are gaming, looking at CPU gaming performance paints an odd picture due to a lot of titles being GPU bound.

Like you said, going to a 4690k now, would only gain you 2 fps. If you look at other CPU benchmarks it may be 50% better in every area.

Depending on when your next GPU upgrade cones you may just be better getting a new card.
