Hi all!

Recently bought a core 2 duo setup - E2200 and overclocked it to 3.3/3.4ghz.

Its not fast enough :)

So, what's the upgrade? I head 'Quad' core is neigh on useless for apps at the minute, so is the "wolfdale" the only upgrade? Is it actually faster?

Cheers,
Sam

It isn't fast enough for what?

Wolfdale CPUs appear to be overclocking very well and they have more cache also which will help with some applications so if you need 4ghz or thereabouts they would be a good way to go.

However the blanket statement of quad cores being useless for apps is a little misleading. If the application is coded with multi-core systems in mind then quad core can be highly effective and depending on the task you can sometimes run multiple instances of the same program which can make a large difference.

After a quick check the minimum requirements for the game are way below what you have. Apparantly it does support multiple cores but from what you've found it would appear to still be somewhat limited on basic CPU speed so yep, I think Wolfdale might be your best option.

I'm assuming here that the other parts for your system are decent enough as if you don't have PC6400 and a motherboard that supports 1333mhz CPUs you might not see any benefit.

Yep no probs, thanks for the help. Mem only clocks upto 980ish so faster clocking ram may also be on the cards.

As far as I can see FSX is massively CPU and MEM limited. When i clocked it up from 2.2 to 3.3 it made a staggering difference to the fps. Therefore i'm presuming my 8800gt isnt the bottleneck.
