The Tbred 1700Xp and Mobile Barton 2500 were the overclocking daddies in their days and i was wondering whats their equivalent in the 939 world?
The SD3700+ ND Opty144 seem to be quite good but is there something better?

I think that the 146 has a stock of 2ghz. It's the 144 that is 1.8ghz off the shelf.

The 146 though is still a much better bet because the low multi on the 144 means that regardless of what the chip can do there isn't a motherboard out there that can hold a steady HTT of 330+. I am still pretty pleased with mine though. I can get it posting at 2.85ghz and solid as a rock at 2.75ghz. For £105 including delivery I can't say I ain't very pleased indeed.

While this batch of 3700SDs is really decent, I doubt there are more than a hand full of chips that can leap by more than 800-900mhz. Sure you might get to 3ghz, but you've got quite a head start towards it already. Now with a 146 or better yet a 144, getting to 3ghz is a real accomplishment.

I might actually try to push my 144 that extra mile tonight. The only reason I stopped when i did in the past is because I hit a sweet spot with my ram.

EDIT: No i won't. I am going out drinking tonight and i don't plan to come home in a state where i could overclock a pocket-watch let alone a computer.

pwnterons with a 10x multi like the 146 and 170 are the best, due to the 10x multi it is easy to work out your clock speed, but you can also hit bh5's top speed at low latency with 2.5 on the dial, (250htt) without the use of dividers.

I'd say the Opty 146 CABYE 0540 FPAW. Most hit 2.9 on 1.45V, and many will do 3GHz. Of course some steppings likr the early CABNEs are slightly better, but there were never many about.

So even though the 3700+ is faster at stock, if i can find the opty146 cheaper that would be the one to go for.

Only early CABNE or CABYE. Other steppings do not have the overclocking potential these do. At this very moment in time, the chip to get is the 3700+. That may have changed by next week, it all depends on the steppings.

That is very far from the truth I'm afraid, DFI Ultra-D motherboards easily hits 350MHz HTT...mine do 420MHz...if you get the rev AD0 you will most definately hit 380+MHz.

also untrue the new CAC or CAJ stepping (cant remember which) can do 3ghz. Ill let you know when mine arrives tomorrow or tuesday. Id be happy with 2.5ghz but ill try for 2.7

Erm, even DFI boards struggle at more than 330, mine falls over at 312 ffs :(

There are some good boards, but like CPUs, some are rubbish.
