Out business is looking to move into a new property and found this there, I can see there has been some indication of fibre coming in and just wondering has this has fibre to the premises or is it something to do with more of the networking?

Ahh , it's its a leases line should we able to contact the provider and get it going again ?

You don't need to contact the provider, as it will be more than likely cancelled. You can go with anyone at this point.

The fibre will normally be coming from the exchange so just contact the likes of BT etc and they can get you a new connection etc.

I see the box above says virgin M on it ?

Cable & Wireless (now part of Vodafone) have the fibre and then a virgin media business connection running over it by the looks of things. But yes, it won't be active so new connection required if you want to use it, but at least you won't have any excess construction costs :)

I have followed the purple fibre cable and it goes from outside the building, I do not know where it comes in from ill have to have a wander round the building but definitely looks like fibre is coming in.

We are moving in the premises soon so the best thing is to just phone the people who have their names on the equipment? i guess its cable and wireless I will have to call?

I am going round to the new building shortly so I will take some better pictures of the equipment

The fibre will probably disappear into a duct and off the local POP.

As above, if you are wanting a high speed Internet connection (eg 100Mbps), I'd speak to a couple of providers to get quotes and you should avoid excess construction charges for the install.

Just don't let BT sell you 'GEA' (as we have here - as we have been told it'll operate over our existing ISDN30).

It's been 5 weeks and they've only just sorted us out a corporate account (we are already BT customers but they couldn't find our details) and we've been told another 6 to 8 weeks, minimum.

3 months+ to get a line in. Shameless there are no competition for BT here. :(

got some more pictures...

the purple cable comes into the box on the top and then yellow cables come from that into the 3rd box the 2nd one aint being used

so do you recon it is a leased line that was being used?
and what is the next step do I just contact an ISP and get someone to come out and look at it? is it worth ringing BT ??

cheers

If you want a leased line then phone up some leased line providers and get some prices. The presence of that fibre is a good sign as it means there's already ductwork run into your premises, but it's impossible to tell from some photos what it was for.

I'm assuming you've decided that you need/want a leased line service and have a vague idea of the costs involved?

I have looked into it and it is going to be costly for a leased line , think am just going to go for ADSL as should receive up to 20mb. shame there is no fibre cabinets nearby!

I am looking for a bit of advice regarding networking. I have looked and all the cat5 cables go into the top 2 but they do not have any power going to them so I wonder whats next to get everything networked. Do I buy a switch and cut all the cables and put rj45 connectors on them and patch them to the switch?

just a bit confused about the setup

cheers

No. You install a switch and then use short network cables to connect between it and the patch panel.

From the sounds of it you'd benefit from paying for half a day of someone's time to get some proper advice.

No offense but you are out of your depth, and fumbling around on the company's dime will cost them more than a half day with a consultant. You will end up with something relevant to your needs and you will get to learn in the process.
