Hi

Not sure if I can post this in here or not, sure it will get closed if I cant! :)

Im selling my megane on the bay at the moment
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280813876...LX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_815wt_1344

What would you say I should expect to get for it? Ive had offers of £1400-1500 which I think is ridiculous considering the mileage and trim, but i'm not sure if im being a bit naive.

Im not promoting my car btw, just after a bit of friendly input.

Thanks

That would be on my pitch at £2950, worth £2k ish trade. You need to price it at £2200-£2300 maybe a little more.

eBay auction listings will just attract chancers and people who want your car for peanuts, you need to stick a fair price on it and stick to your guns for it.

Diesel hatchbacks are popular, given your car is in a nice colour and spec, mileage is sensible it should sell.

What I would do is take the number of previous owners out of the listing, it's had a few owners at 5 and this could be something that would put people off - even though they don't care about the number of previous owners, obviously if they ask you how many you must tell them truthfully.

This, this, this, one hundred times this.

There seems to be an ever growing opinion that Ebay values are 'real market values'. They are not.

Ebay is where people either don't sell a car, or sell a crap car for peanuts. Everyone bids as though there is something wrong with it, or makes a bid reflective of the fact most of them cannot be bothered to go and see it beforehand.

Unless it's something particularly crap you will almost always get more money for it advertising it normally with a fixed price.

And remember, this most important point is that it is a car. It is not a hard drive or an Xbox 360. It wont sell within 32 seconds if you advertising it. It can take weeks - there are a limited number of buyers.

Lots of people think if a car hasn't sold within 32 seconds, its overpriced, so they keep slashing the price until somebody snaps it up because it's too cheap not to.

A good car at the right price will sell eventually. Put it at the right price and wait for the right person to come along.

I could have sold my last car in the first 2 weeks for thousands less than it was worth, I held out, stuck to my price and got what I wanted 2 months later.

That is very true. I have convinced myself that it is worth less than I think because it hasnt sold in the first week!

I do not need to sell the car for any particular reason, I just fancy a petrol again and thats it! I was hoping for around the £3k mark but I guess thats a little optimistic.

It just seems like a nice clean car that ok whilst it's diseasel will be reasonably quick, quiet and refined - unless there's something wrong with it or you have your eye on a particular replacement it could be a case of better the devil you know

Yeah it is a lovely car. I do have my eye on a e46 330, big change I know but I've always wanted one, well an e46 coupe anyway. I don't do many miles so diesel doesn't really have the same pros as when I first got it

Decent price. I got offered £1700 for mine as a trade in. 08 with about 90ish K on it.

Are you sure that was the 130bhp version. I thought the pre-facelift 1.9D's were 120bhp.

MISOLD:p

My dad has mixed results with Ebay, anything decentish ie 3k and above sells better in Autotrader. The cheap stuff sells better on Ebay.

We had an odd one a few months ago, we had a Kangoo Van.I advertised it as an auction initially and it only made £1650, the buyer never turned up for this. Then I tried a classified (with best offer) at £2300, which is what it was worth I felt, again didnt shift, I dropped the price to £1700 for the last 2 weeks and still nowt. Getting desperate we took it to a real life auction, and it didnt even hit the reserve of £1600:(

It was a clean van with no dings, just high mileage, so it was really surprising that it didnt sell, Dad gave up left it at my place while he went on holiday, whilst he was away I thought i'll relist it on Ebay, and to my surprise it hit £2380. Suffice to say the old fella was chuffed to bit, so yes Fox is right, it may take time, but you can get the right money.

Thats my tale of woe with a kangoo.

Nope definitley the 130 BHP one, thats what it comes up as on here too

I wasnt actually going to sell it for £2800 but I had my eye on another car and wanted the cash quickly. Sent a second chance offer and he snapped it up.

Was a bit gutted that the bloke didnt care about the HU and adapter to keep the steering controls, would rather have taken it out and kept it! :)

This, sold my car after 3 months, for about 1500 more than what it was worth, just involved sitting and waiting for the right person to come along and appreciate the fact that it was as good as new with every extra.

Only problem for most people is the ongoing cost of insurance etc.

I dont think i'll sell another car on ebay. The fees are very high once sold, and you rarely get what the car is worth to begin with. I think I'll go with pistonheads next time.

Yeah me too, although luckily he didn't accept the 2nd chance offer on ebay and just called me instead
