What's up with Yorkshire?

You could read War and Peace while waiting for a bus in Yorkshire
probably, down here you might just have time to read a text!

Do you visit here often? There obviously aren't as many nor as frequent buses, but if I want to go to Wakefield on a Saturday afternoon there's buses every 10 minutes from town. Towards the evening's it might be every 15-20 minutes, but then again I can just sit in my local and pay £2.30 for a pint while I wait

No I don’t fortunately.
14 or 15 years ago, my wife applied for some cheap day return that the rail company were offering to York.
York was over subscribed, so they offered her Leeds or Darlington.
Remembering from my trucking days, that anywhere north of Ripon was marked on the map as “Here be dragons”, I immediately vetoed Darlington so Leeds it was.
When we walked out of Leeds station, looking at the taxi rank, I thought that maybe we’d fetched up in Islamabad, or Karachi.
As a long time taxi driver, I don’t care if the guy at the wheel is blue with green stripes, providing that he knows where he’s going, but coming from London, it was a little surprising to see not one white face on the rank.
We spent a couple of hours just walking around the shops, occasionally stopping off for a glass of wine, and I freely admit, that Leeds was clean enough, and welcoming to us, I wouldn’t rush back, but if I did end up there again, I wouldn’t be upset.
Finally, to my throw away line about buses, my hand to God, I was kidding, I was using that old chestnut about buses in the country running maybe two per day, I sincerely apologise to Yorkshire generally, and Leeds in particular.
Oh, and it’s nice that beer is cheap up there, but I feel no pain, as I don’t drink the stuff, but I’d be gutted if you can get Grey Goose vodka for under £28 a litre.

Sounds like you had a nice trip, Leeds city centre has been modernised a lot in the past 5-10 years, it's a lot nicer than even when I started working there 8 years ago. I don't take offence at the transport being sub par, every where in the country is sub par compared to London which is basically world class. On the taxi front you don't really need to use them as much seeing as you're basically in walking distance of everywhere from the train station, you only really need a taxi if you're going out of Leeds. But yes there aren't a lot of white taxi drivers like the cabbies in London.
