I thought it was just my end but I'm on fibre and shouldn't be getting this! I'll load a youtube video and it will just buffer, quick refresh of the page and the video plays fine mostly. Sometimes it will stop, buffer then play fine again. It does exactly the same damn thing on my parents and sisters computers both mac and laptop. Why does it buffer when you go to the video and not play for ages, yet if you do a quick refresh it plays instantly.

Could it be down to OpenDNS?

I'm on Sky, Mum is on Talk Talk and dad is BT

Yeah definitely doesn't sound right do a hard reset of the router?

On all three routers? :p

Talk Talk router was reset recently, Sky router is switched off when I go out or go to bed so that's always reset. Just incase DG blames it all on Sky :)

p.s I'm also using Fasterfox, Adblock Edge, Adskip and Askipper ( only Fasterfox + Adblock is installed on sisters comp )

Why the hell are you turning off the router? Oh and don't use OpenDNS, it's not faster than using Google DNS and in my experience can actually cause issues like this.

Youtube just being rubbish i suppose?

Magic actions for youtube is an extension on chrome (and others i think) that allows pre buffering, you can pre load the videos or just let the video play and it will buffer the entire video instead of playing catch up all the time.

To pre-load youtube videos you need to enable DASH playback. Don't ask me what it is, I have no idea. It's why a video won't load all the way. If you disable it, youtube automatically disable 1080p playback. No way around it that I know of but 720p works.

I feel people are making this more complicated than it needs to be.

Surely with fibre, a good browser (try chrome?) and a decent ad blocker (I use Adblock plus) you shouldn't need to arse about with pre-loading videos.

Try it on internet explorer or any other vanilla browser and post back.

I'd definitely bin OpenDNS, unless you conclusively can prove it's faster than the ISP's own DNS servers.

It happens i think its a flash bug. I can hit play on youtube and see a stream barely play but if you click ahead of the buffering and get it to restart suddenly im seeing speeds of over 65mb.

Ive gotten used to it now just click ahead and back and reset the stream a few times without refreshing. Theres nothing wrong with my Infinity i get 76MB and 25ms ping yet i still buffer youtube the odd time.

Because it's pointless leaving it on if I'm not using it, I have done this since the early days of ADSL

Turning the router off is ok, providing you're leaving the FTTC modem on all the time.

Personally I'd avoid turning the modem off as it can affect your sync speed, but if you're only turning the router off then I suppose it doesn't hurt. Apart from the pennies saved, is it worth the hassle? :p
