Whats Vista doing with my space?

As for the otehr utilities, yes I was looking at the physical representation of folders. there is only the folder with the backup taking any space - 140 GB of space. Free space listed as 24GB. HAve used these utilities before, so am familiar with how they work.

Yes, the drive size is listed as 250GB (232GB).

This is only the first install of Vista on this machine.

Don't think there is any utility that is going to tell me any different from any of those I have already tried.

Think my only choice is going to be to delete partition and re-format, as much as I don't want to.

check with system files showing (not just hidden files), it's int he same place in folder view of explorer..

if you've had norton installed, then you may have a 'nprotect' recycle bin

And uncheck 'Hide Protected Operating System Files (Recommended)' too.

Thanks for all the help all. I finally gave in last night and just quick formatted the drive. It is reporting everything as it should now.

Last time when I had that, when I ran out of space I miraculously had more free space free, ignore what vista says, the space is still usable on demand.
