Whats with all the extra cloud software I dont want.

I don't know about FIFA 12 but as far as Civ 5 goes :

- You just install it, activate and update, then :

- You can turn off cloud saves by going to steam > settings > 'downloads & cloud' tab and uncheck 'enable cloud synchronisation for games which support it'.

- Then go Steam > Go Offline.

To the best of my knowledge you're set to play offline for as long as.

I mean, I symapthise, worst example for me is the trend for 'Ribbon' interface replacing 'Menu' interface in software - make it 2% less scary for utter technophobes at the cost of being horrifically less easy for anyone who is even moderately competent.

I know a few people who've absolutely no tolerance of any these programs and will swiftly avoid any game upon hearing that it's tied to Steam/Origin/other. The only digital distributors they'll deal with are Gamersgate, GOG etc.

I understand those sentiments or principles perfectly, but simply disagree as the pros outweigh the cons to me also. I use Steam almost exclusively, with Blizzard games (StarCraft 2 and in future Diablo 3), and to a lesser extent ME2 DLC, being my only exceptions..
