What's with delivery drivers etc. ignoring the doorbell and hammering on the door instead?

Having recently spent a small fortune on our lovely new front door, this is starting to give me the rage  We just had an Ocado delivery and the guy just waltzed up to the front door, ignored our Reolink doorbell (which lights up when you approach ffs!) and instead just smashed our letter box up and down  It's not often drivers completely ignore the doorbell, but most seem to push it and hammer on the door immediately (dumb when you can hear the doorbell from outside), or clatter the letterbox which is just as annoying and sounds so aggressive. Argh, anyone else get this? Do they think if they don't ring the doorbell they won't be caught on camera or something?

I've now turned the Reolink light to always on at night which may help, we'll see... I think I'm off to join the 'Dull Men's Club' Facebook group now and rant about this further  :(

Well, glad it’s not just us then!

but I hate ringing doorbells where you can't hear that it's worked
Pretty sure you can hear ours but I get the point.
if you're delivering you need someone in, not someone waffling from 20 miles away, or from down Tesco. Or the bog.
But if I’m on the bog and tell him to leave it hidden in the recycling bin or something, that counts as a delivery right? Ah but I guess as others say, chucked on the doorstep seems to count as a delivery nowadays
To the point where I’ve opened the door and pressed the bell to check it actually works. It does :D
We said to the guy “oh is the bell not working” and pushed it for him :o
More worryingly, I wonder about road safety when delivery drivers are under pressure to deliver x amount of items per day.
Oh heck yeah. The driving around our very narrow streets is scary. We had to cross the road when walking because a van had pulled up right across the pavement and we couldn’t get past :confused:Regularly see them bombing up and down the streets.
One of our local drivers just drops the parcel on the doorstep and takes a photo.
You only know it's there when you get the email.
I’ve got a picture of a parcel hanging out of the letterbox which was delivered mid afternoon when we were both at work. It wasn’t clear from the doorbell footage otherwise we would asked a neighbour to retrieve it. Amazingly it didn’t get stolen - our front door is only about 6ft from the pavement and we get a fair amount of foot traffic going past.

Seems the only use that video doorbells are good for is to ask your neighbours nicely to retrieve your parcel for you :o

Don't you get an online tracking link so you can see when the delivery is about to arrive? Then you can be ready at the door!!
Yeah I mean this was Ocado so it’s not like he’s running off and leaving shopping on the step. I’m sure they are treated better than your average Amazon delivery driver etc. with regards to what drops they have to get done. And they have to wait for you to be in anyway..
Ocado’s notifications have been a bit screwy lately mind, we tend to get the “we’re unpacking” one and then 5mins later the “your our next stop” and then the doorbell (hammering) goes 5mins after that.

Someone actually asked this on the RM subreddit, and the answer was they hate the delay. And to be honest I get that.
I get it, but surely the delay is minimal compared to getting stuck in traffic, waiting at traffic lights, not finding the house, not finding the parcel in the van etc. I think I'm going to make it my mission to have a go at these delivery drivers for banging on my front door. We'll see how that goes :p

EDIT: My Reolink lights up before you get to the front door anyway (as it detects you) so they should know it works. And as mentioned you can probably hear it go from the outside too. But yes I'm sure it's not the same for every door.

Well my Sennheiser sub just got delivered via UPS. I had one of those mornings where I was about to leave for work (it was due tomorrow), then spotted the email saying it was due today. Thought "oh bugger" and was all set to stay at home on tenter hooks waiting for the delivery. He actually turned up at 9.20am right after I had changed into my WFH attire ( :p ), and amazingly rang the doorbell and didn't hammer on the door! (He was clearly about to walk off and leave it on the doorstep mind.. But now I absolutely cannot be bothered to go into the office today. Why would I when I have a new subwoofer to play with at home :D

tldr; fair play to UPS. They might not give a 1hr slot but at least their drivers don't hammer your door down

I always stand to one side when i ring it so im not video'd. I think they make more noise outside the house than inside, the neighbours must love them.
As someone else mentioned, you realise 99% of video doorbells will be set-up to record before you even get to the door? My path is only 6-7ft to the door if that and it records/pre-rolls before people even appear at my gate on the pavement. But god yeah, when people leave the external sound on it makes my rage. But then again maybe that's a solution to show drivers that the doorbell does work...
I've even got recordings of a couple of drivers kicking the door as their hands are full with parcels for neighbours!
Man, I'd be taking that up with the delivery company if anyone has the nerve to kick my front door!
What if it's someone who is registered deaf or has a disability where the intercom offered by a smart doorbell can give instruction?
Yeah good point. Even pensioners are going to struggle to get to the door in time to catch most drivers before they scarper!
Not in my experience, ours isn't hard wired but it's always instantaneous to respond. Perhaps it's because it's one of the newer models with the pre-roll (or whatever it's called).
Pre-roll for video is just that, purely for video. I doubt it has anything to do with reaction time on the bell itself. But yeah my Reolink is hardwired - I picked hard-wired specifically to combat delay or poor battery performance/life so it's kinda frustrating when people just ignore it. I didn't pay an electrician to run cables from my front bedroom down to the porch, and spend an afternoon filling, sanding, filling again and painting 3 coats for some numpty to come and hammer on the door! :p
