What's with delivery drivers etc. ignoring the doorbell and hammering on the door instead?

Don't you get an online tracking link so you can see when the delivery is about to arrive? Then you can be ready at the door!!
Yeah I mean this was Ocado so it’s not like he’s running off and leaving shopping on the step. I’m sure they are treated better than your average Amazon delivery driver etc. with regards to what drops they have to get done. And they have to wait for you to be in anyway..
Ocado’s notifications have been a bit screwy lately mind, we tend to get the “we’re unpacking” one and then 5mins later the “your our next stop” and then the doorbell (hammering) goes 5mins after that.

Nobody rings doorbells except for the postie and even he invariably rams letters and whatnot through the letterbox (why do you feel the need to fold everything in half? Letters and magazines folded in half... not cool. They fit anyway so don't do it). Couriers invariably just leave parcels on the doormat outside regardless if you'll lucky they'll knock or rather bang on teh door first

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaargh - I feel your pain.
If anybody knocks on my door I open it and then press the doorbell saying "Oh it is working".

I made a mistake the other day, I heard the knock, said my usual thing and he said he did ring it.
When he'd gone I checked the doorbell and he had done :)

Try posting a unfolded letter through the draught excluder on most letter boxes and now try a folded one. It's much easier with the extra rigidity of the folded ones, now imagine the hassle that saves over 100s of letterboxes a day.

The one that ****** me off, is when they open my porch door, bypassing my door bell, then sound like they are punching the glass windows on the door into the house, ******* my two dogs off! The doorbell, they know not too go running up to it barking.

Imagine having 90 drops, 2 minutes on everyone's doorstep is 3hrs and that's without travelling from house to house and finding the package in the back of the van. That 2 minutes includes getting out the van, walking up your drive, ringing the bell and waiting for you to answer. You can't do anything about traffic or travel time so it is all about shaving as much time off that two minutes as you can. You don't need to press too many non working door bells before you're going to be on a very later finish. Not to mention the elderly who are half deaf

Half the time the door bells don’t work.

I ring my mates/family ones all the time just to annoy them but it fails half the time.

If I was delivering I’d be banging on the door as well to make a loud as possible.

I hate it too when they bash on the door; its not even a normal knock it is like they are in full rage mode. Thankfully since putting up the nest cameras I get a notification as they come up the path to my phone within a few seconds, so I can usually meet them at the door just before they start going ape. Sometimes though they do use the bell - which is rare - and I find myself thinking what is that noise?! Oh the door bell. lol.

Delivery drivers prefer to just bang the door as they are sure it works,, where as a door bell they can press it and not be sure that it is working , thus wasting their precious time :)

tbf i think a lot of people won't press on the modern smart door bells as they know that they're just more hassle than they're worth, a huge amount just don't seem to work so you're left standing there for ages and even if they do you have to wait for the person to answer to find their phone etc so it's just easier to knock on the door...

Someone actually asked this on the RM subreddit, and the answer was they hate the delay. And to be honest I get that.

I get it, but surely the delay is minimal compared to getting stuck in traffic, waiting at traffic lights, not finding the house, not finding the parcel in the van etc. I think I'm going to make it my mission to have a go at these delivery drivers for banging on my front door. We'll see how that goes :p

EDIT: My Reolink lights up before you get to the front door anyway (as it detects you) so they should know it works. And as mentioned you can probably hear it go from the outside too. But yes I'm sure it's not the same for every door.

Well my Sennheiser sub just got delivered via UPS. I had one of those mornings where I was about to leave for work (it was due tomorrow), then spotted the email saying it was due today. Thought "oh bugger" and was all set to stay at home on tenter hooks waiting for the delivery. He actually turned up at 9.20am right after I had changed into my WFH attire ( :p ), and amazingly rang the doorbell and didn't hammer on the door! (He was clearly about to walk off and leave it on the doorstep mind.. But now I absolutely cannot be bothered to go into the office today. Why would I when I have a new subwoofer to play with at home :D

tldr; fair play to UPS. They might not give a 1hr slot but at least their drivers don't hammer your door down

It seems Amazon are the worst for this, plus they just dump all your parcels on the floor regardless of whether you are actually in or not and what the delivery instructions say (I.e. don’t leave them unattended as we live on the corner )

The postman, the other day, said he just doesnt ring doorbells as a matter of form. I just thought wtf!

As a part time takeaway delivery driver myself the only ones i hate are the Ring doorbells. I always stand to one side when i ring it so im not video'd. I think they make more noise outside the house than inside, the neighbours must love them.

Houses not having door numbers , however, are a whole new plane of hell for drivers. Spend a quid on a door number for gods sake! its your noodles going cold. Oh, and spotlights that burn your retinas out from 50 paces.

Imagine having 90 drops,

10+ yrs ago when i couriered for Jeff i had between 120 and 160 drops, not parcels. Then pair that with having to wait hours because sorting isn't for your route...

Race to the bottom.

Dunno why people bother with cam doorbells when a parcel box is cheaper, safer, and more convenient. Not like CCTV (that's even captured a face) has ever stopped anyone breaking into a van and stealing all the tools. It's better to have than not have if you got the cash i suppose.
