What's with the avatars?

I think it also depends on where you are, in GD it can be pretty fast paced depending on the time of day when you are posting so it might be simply that some people get missed if they aren't recognisable for the signature or having an avatar (takes up space so there is more to skip of the post maybe). In the hardware sections I don't think it happens much, partly due to the pace and partly because having a high post count or an avatar does not equal knowledge or at least not in my head it doesn't. ;) :)
