Hi guys, i just moved to eclipse evolution BB, now on my router it says download is 4992kb/s but my line is supposedly suppose to be able to take 8195kb/s now i expected this, and thought it might take a couple of days to ammend itself, this is what happend on my 2000kb/s, it shoed as 1000kb/s then fixed itself, however dowloads just hover at 100kb and should be atleast 400kb like it says on my router, can anybody help

Noise margin is at lowest 5.5 however i have seen it much higher, its now at 6.8
output power is 19.4
attentuion is 33.5

Thanks a lot
Angelos

edit: my SNR / noise margin keeps fluctuating, could this be the problem? and my downloads are at 47kb which is 512k BB

If your SNR is between 5.5 and 6.5 at 4995 sync, then there is no chance your line will make an 8mbit sync. Its pretty much maxed out as it is :)

na my SNR goes above 8 sometimes and higher! and also why are my download speeds so low anyway? 5000kb/s is fine its faster than my old one but my download speeds are still low

Oh and according to samknows aswell as other websites i should be able to get a minimum of 5.5 which im no where near to! oh and by any chance does eclipse evolution have a 10 day trialing period like ADSL MAX?

You are on ADSL max, yes it does have the 10 day thing, although it doesnt seem to have any bearing as your sync rate can change at any time, your BRAS profile (which is the data rate limit at bt's end) will update periodically depending on your lowest stable sync rate, it just probably hasent gone up yet from a low starting rate. Wait and it'll update to the nearest half meg to your sync speec.

what would it need to be to get 8, is it possible in the first 10 days its trying to get a stable noise margin because before it got to 15, is that high enough?

Significantly more, at your current sync rate.
What you would be more likely to see is an increase in sync rate to balance the higher SNR margin.

is it possible in the first 10 days its trying to get a stable noise margin

No more than your SNR margin varied under normal circumstances, and will no doubt continue to vary.

because before it got to 15, is that high enough?

No. The simple fact is you ain't going to get 8Mbps :p

It might very well be worth trying your master socket with no extensions though - you won't get 8Mbps, but you might get more.

ok thanks, ill be happy with 5megs but still y are my downloads so bad, is it because im in my 10 day triling period, my downloads are about 47kb/s

Read my post above, your data profile probably hasent updated yet, its independant of your sync rate and takes a few days to update.

oh ok thanks, i got 1 problem though, my dads coming home and hes one of those download crazy guys, and im a hardcore gamer, so is my bro, so will this only last for 10 days. 10 days is a long time

No, ignore the 10 day thing it doesnt mean anything, its just to stop people moaning while the line stabalises and your data profile sets itself.

It takes 3 days for the profile to set itself, so if you sync constantly every time above say 4mbit, it'll give you a data profile of around that amount. If then your sync rate was to rise, you'd wait another 3 days of constantly syncing that high and you would only then get that higher data rate.

BT add interleave status if the line is having trouble stabilising, it increases ping latency quite a lot, but increases stability, and can allow a higher bandwidth.

Which is best Fast, or Interleave. Well on a perfect line synced at 8128, clearly fast, as it lowers the packet latency (ping times etc).

However if your line isnt perfect, whats best for you... 4096 sync speed and 50ms pings with interleave, or 3426 sync speed and 25ms pings in fast mode (Purely hypothetical random numbers here).

For a FPS gamer 25ms V 50ms is a no brainer. On the other hand, if your into P2P file sharing, the extra bandwidth is going to be best. So it all depends on what you use the connection for.

If ping is your only concern, its possible to ask your ISP to tell BT to force fast mode all the time, but you'll probably find your MSR will be lower.

PS...
My BRAS was initially set at 2meg, and it took 24 hours for the first update which took it to 5meg (Still hoping for 7.1meg BRAS, I've had zero resyncs, modem Synced at 8128). But MSR and BRAS arn't locked even after the first 10 days. It's just you 'should' be at your 'optimum' settings after 10 days. If suddenly your line improves (or you buy a better modem thats better at syncing in with low noise margins) the system will notice this after a few days and 'upgrade' your MSR and BRAS accordingly.
