when i boot my system and am at the log in screen, this strange flickering happens, it just continues flickering, perfectly timed too (although i know it doesnt look it from the video...) to put it in a musical context, 120 beats per minute in 3/4 fits it perfectly with every 3rd beat being a gap from the flicker.

second problem is that when browsing the net, occasionally i will hit a website and the system will lock ?! i will get a couple of odd coloured broken lines here and there and a totally locked pc. if i reboot and go back to that page... its fine.

http://media.putfile.com/WTF- <--- video of the flickering.

game play is fine, no drop outs or locks during game play so im really confused.

How close is your water pump to the screen? I had a similar problem with an alphacool waterpump and my TFT...

I was going to say its got to do with the video driver intialising, but after watching clip it seems like some sort of interference or voltage fluctuation.

close but not close enough to cause that, plus i had no trouble with the 7800GT and X1800XT that have now been replaced.

thats what i was thinking... :/

Try booting up and hitting F8 and choosing Enable VGA mode. If you are still getting the flickering then you know it isnt the driver since VGA mode uses the default driver aka safe mode. btw does it do this in safe mode or in the bios?

Difficult one : if it was psu then it should be pretty regular. If it was graphics then the same. Honestly it could just be the old miocrosoft story as usual. Id try reload windows and see what happens.

it doesnt do it every time i boot so the F8 option may not be possible as the result would be inconclusive, if it didnt flicker i couldnt say if it was due to the VGA mode or simply that it didnt flicker this time. :(

neither. the video is of the standard windows XP log in screen. it doesnt flicker once inside windows.

lol, not a chance :( ive got 200 gigs worth of programs installed that i use daily from games to the music studio software i use, it would be a nightmare to re install it all :(

Another option to look at is to get a old hard drive and just put a copy of windows on it and see if it still does it. That way you can keep your data on the original drive and then have a clean copy of windows to play around with. If it still does it with that then you know it isn't the windows install.

I would suggest trying a different monitor.

It looks like your PC has a heartbeat :)

You havent got a mobile phone sat too near have you?

Also it doesnt look like a Windows problem.
