Whats wrong with the Fiat Stilo Abarth?

My mate's Brava was little more than a re-animated automotive corpse.

Think the Brava I had, was rather reliable and didn't have a huge fault in the 2 years ownership I had it and many miles.

Well..... Up until it got a leaking gearbox and needed a new or refurbed one. Sold the car for £215 :D

So, I think, it is fact, all Fiat's do get major problem's!

Buying something cheap to run over winter actually works out cheaper than just running the Supra, with the added bonus of not having to worry about the car getting damaged, besides its not like you can have any fun when its mostly going to be raining or worse anyway.

What ever you do don't post in the alpha thread in GD.

You have a RWD car with a ok chunk of power and you can't have fun in the rain?

You know this to be pure fact do you?

Please tell me what issues I should have had with my Fiat

Your sarcasm detectors are both broken. :)

If you do a search on my username and Fiat's, you will see me singing the praises of a little 51 plate Punto we owned until recently which needed absolutely nothing but routine servicing, consumables and petrol put in the tank during the course of our ownership from new.

Reality check time!

You drive an old Toyota. A reasonably interesting old Toyota, but an old Toyota all the same. It is not a classic car. It is not worth a particularly large amount of money. It does NOT need to be tucked up warm under a blanket for the entire winter whilst you rush out and spend a 4 figure sum of money on a pile of complete crap to drive around in as an alternative car.

We do not live in Siberia and you do not drive a Ferrari F430.

Stop being such a girl and just drive the Supra.

I agree. fox wins as per usual

Well I certainly have experienced so.

I spent more time fixing my ex's punto than she did driving it. My mate's Brava was little more than a re-animated automotive corpse.

A Fiat did once out run your Evo and chip your windscreen to prove it was the better car.

True story.

Every single Fiat in the world without exception has had major problems. The Stilo is no different.

No beg to differ I have a Fiat Sedici which is basically a Suzuki SX4 with a Fiat badge. No major problems known yet (I know I am cheating). ;)

No seriously I wouldn't touch a Stilo Abarth, they are loaded with electrics that you would expect to find in 40 grand car of it's time. Fiat and electrics don't mix well at all.

2.4 litre engine isn't even that quick, I read the Turbo diesel can almost match it in most areas. Horrendous looking little car as well, lacks any kind of Italian flair.

Strange thing is on the gearbox side they seem to be miles better than the Alfa Romeo Selespeed box, despite being exactly the same design.

I think they are way over priced as well to top it off.

OP you have delusions of grandeur when it comes to your Supra, and I don't even know what Supra you have, it could be the fast and furious one or the exact opposite end of the Supra market, either way, you do not need to put her away for winter.

He has a MK3 supra, the one before the infamous "fast and furious" MK4 supra

Oh? Thats funny, I remember it being that the Punto driver was holding me up horrifically and I was so close to his bumper for so long that I got shot blasted :p:D

I had a 54 plate stilo abarth selespeed and it wasn't great, but not awful. I found the gearbox jerky, undecisive in auto mode, cold mornigs made it want to change at random, pump for gearbox died and was expensive. The satnav stopped working, and wouldn't read any disks.

It wasn't quick, and felt clumbersome in the bends, lots of body roll. It only managed 21mpg average over 9 months. I did however like the panaromic roof, lots of air in and made it feel bigger.

I'd be tempted to keep driving what you've got. I've got a e36 325i that I use to buy a second car over winter but now just drive the 325i with more care. Only got me stuck once thanks to being overtook by a 4x4 and then him stopping, Couldn't get traction to move off up the hill after that.

Im not mental, I know the cars only worth £2.5k-£3.5k and its not the cost of any damage that could be caused by myself or some gimp hooning along on linglongs that worries me, I bought the car because I like it and so would be heartbroken if I or anybody else brought about its demise, accidents rates go up dramatically in the winter and its not like you can "enjoy" a car in winter anyway so I would rather store it and drive something else which would work out better on the wallet anyway.

I think you have a fair and valid point tbh.

I certainly wouldn't want to be driving my supra in the winter.
