hi everyone -wondered if anyone can help with this problem:
just built new rig - does not boot to bios - when plug in the 4pin powersupply cable nothing turns on, but when i just plug the 24 pin power supply the fans and everything start, but still does not boot to bios.(i.e no signal sent to monitor - cannot see anything) - have tried with different monitors

have tried various things such as changing psu to test its not at fault; only using one stick of ram; built outside of my case to check for any shorting; tried with just the graphics card installed - still no luck

suggestions welcome

Spec:
6300
Freezerpro 7
asus p5b deluxe wi fi
WD SATA II 120GB
Seagate SATA II 320GB
2x512 Corsair XMS2 800mhz DDR2
550w psu
dvd-writer

your ram need a higher voltage 2 make it run ? just an idea cause some ddr2 ram been like this on some new boards :) g/l

First off you need both the 24pin and the 4pin connector attached. Anything less might let things start but you wont get the PC to do anything more. If it's not starting when both are plugged in then you either have a duff PSU, motherboard or CPU. Anything else wouldn't stop the motherboard at least giving you an error code.

You might also have a short between the motherboard and something else. Are your front panel connectors on the right pins on the motherboard? When you built it outside the case was that with both power connectors attached? How did you try to start the system when you had it outside the case? Short the two power button pins on the motherboard?

thanks for the replies - the psu is the only item that is not of decent quality and was bought new with the other components, but am getting the same problem when connecting up my old psu (some 350w unbranded thing)

but i'm thinking i may be getting a short with how i've wired the on/off/reset etc pins on the motherboard - as even with the asus widget thing they provide to make connecting these wires easier i cannot get the reset button to work so something must be wrong here perhaps??
