Hey,
about a year or so ago I bought a Dell computer, on windows Vista with an Atheon? (sound right?) core processor (I cant find anymore spec than that atm, though Ill keep looking) About a month after I started using it I had some trouble with turning it on and off. When I shut the computer down it would freeze on a 'Widows is shutting down' screen, and we would regularly have to turn it off manually at the power button.
Recently, I had some trouble turning the computer on, with a screen saying 'Windows has failed to start properly and is searching for solutions'. It would search for solutions about 3 times before starting properly.
Recently it has become very slow, and when I have used the internet, usually with more than one tab open, particularly when one of them is on Youtube, the computer monitior will say 'No imput Signal, going to sleep' despite all the cable connections being fine, I have to reboot the computer to have it work properly.
Im as sure as I can be I dont have any viruses, and I have run defraggers many times latley, and I'm struggling to know what to do. My friend recently had his computer wiped and said that helped tremendously, is that somthing I should be looking at or are there other simpler solutions?

Thanks for all your help, its much appreciated.

Tebz.

Yeah a new re install of windows would help loads (make sure you have disc), also download and run CPUz, that will tell you main components of system, mobo, RAM and CPU, also same for gpuz, tell you your gfx card, then if there's any viable upgrades we can advise you on them. Don't buy dell again, lol, shop here :)

Back up your files you want to keep and give it a reformatt. Reformatting is quite simple, if you don't know what you are doing have a read through a guide on the web somewhere before you start, But its basically just following onscreen prompts.

Okay, i dont understand most of that first reply lol. My brother said somthing about a re install of windows, would that clear everything?? Same question with reformatting.

OK, ready.

A reformat will clear everything off the system (starting clean).

You can reinstall windows over the top of the one already installed, this saves your data and might not solve the problem.

The software recommended by 95thrifles will show you what your system has, and help the people here to help you.

Please do not reformat or reinstall windows unless you have all the disks that came with your computer.

Please do not do it yourself if your unsure, ask a friend who has done this before (its not difficult but can be daunting).

Hope this helps slightly
