It's 2025 and just a few days left before we find out what's next.

From the 5090 to all the way down the stack.

As the 90 is only for the few, everyone's needs/budgets are different.

Whether it's AMD/Intel/Nvidia, what's your 3 deciding factors when you are going to press the buy button?

@Armageus can we get a poll please?

None of the above.

My single criteria is if there is a game I want to play that my current GPU can't handle to the standards I demand in terms of resolution, settings & framerate.

It's why Cyberpunk 2077 made me upgrade to a 3080FE in 2021 and why I haven't felt the need to upgrade again...no games since that have appealed to me in the same way.

Otherwise it's just upgrading for the sake of it.

Price and performance for me, specifically I'm looking for something that is at least 150% of my current card for no more than my budget, before I will move forward with an upgrade.

Less performance than that, even at a good price doesn't seem worth spending money on. And I don't see the point in over spending.

Main factor for me is price, and at rumoured levels I won't be getting one. It seems a little odd to me that prices are going up at previously unknown rates, whilst graphic fidelity is not increasing to match.

I mean, I understand the impact of inflation on materials etc., but the underlying value just isn't there for me. Sticking with 3080, probably for the whole gen.

I must be having deja vu, i feel like we had a near identical thread to this the other day

price
power consumption
performance compared to previous cards

Price is definitely number 1. I also voted vram this time as I won't buy a card that does not have 16GB going forwards. 12GB has served me well, but 2025-27 it is time to move on to 16GB as a minimum imo.

But yeah, price for performance needs to improve accross the board.

Without even voting I could have predicted the majority choices.

For me it’s Price, raster, RT.

Next in order for me would be:
VRAM at least 16GB
Power consumption and efficiency

No interest in features like DLSS because FSR and XeSS are good enough in my experience at 4K.

Obviously price for me, like most people. But I feel like performance (raster or RT) outweighs VRAM purely because it's no good having middling/low perf with loads of VRAM. The same goes the other way I suppose.

needs to be
1. not more than £600
2. more or same vram as current card
3. noticeable improvement in fps over current card

current case was 6800 to 7900xt
achieved 1 and 2
3 got me back to 144hz 1440p, 6800 started at 144hz/1440p but newer games degraded this down to about 100 fps on average
got 7900xt and got the 44hz back
then new games came out and back to 100hz again :D

dlss / fsr not particularly fond of
RT is fine if you can afford it performance wise but otherwise can do one

ultimately its about maintaining a good frame rate for new games without having to dial anything back, upgrades are for when you are dropping below this and the price isn't horrific for the amount of fps you get back
