I went for a new patient checkup with the duty nurse at my doctors surgery recently who took my blood pressure, weight and height and how many I smoked a day (10). From the results, which informed her that I was overweight (13.5st) and blood pressure was way too high (@ 23 y/o) and a combination of family medical history, I was heading for an early grave.
I had a BMI reading of 26.1 that day.
Granted it took about a 2 months later and a long hard look in the mirror; I'm 6 weeks "Smoke free" and weigh 12.4st and still dropping, thanks to the gym rats and health nuts in here :) This was my BMI reading today using the NHS BMI Tool:

I heard that BMI does not take into account a lot of things such as, bone density and muscle mass, so I guess it should be used as a guideline.
Whats your BMI?

Around 29.5 - but it's a pile a crap as my BF is in the "healthy" zone and I carry a lot of muscle mass. If you read the disclaimer it says it's not suitable for atheletes or sports people or bodybuilders.

Just did mine and got 23.3.. Woohoo! :)

5'10 and 11st 9lbs and 26 years old.. I've been going to the gym a bit for the last year so have built up a bit of mass, if I didn't though I'd be as skinny as a rake!

Haha. 5'7" and 13st 13lbs. BMI 30.4

Ooops, looks like i'm obese! Hang on, i can run 5 miles without stopping, go to 3 aerobic fitness classes a week, can press over my own body weight and have 14% body fat.

Jeez. What's a guy got to do to get a decent BMI these days........

:D

I love BMI, it tells you how dense you are.

The bits that say which number range is obese etc, are rubbish, but the method of calculation provides useful information.

Pleasant surprise! My BMI is 17.7!

A year or two ago it was around 15

21.7, i'm 5'7" and 10 stone. I don't think i could healthily weigh any less though as i have next to no fat on me due to sports.

eh?

29.3, even though for example I cycled 8 miles, did 2 hours softball training, cycled 8 more miles, then played 45 mins squash on Sunday, run 10km 1-2 times a week, was in the gym last night and have nothing even approaching a gut, I am apparently on the border of being obese. Genius metric the BMI.
