Whats your favourite martial art / form of fighting?

You shouldn't be punching if you can avoid it, unless a fight has already started. Ideally you want to take them to the ground quickly and with minimal force and run before the fight actually begins (only if you know a fight is inevitable of course).

That's funny, I've been told that it takes a very long time before you actually become familiar enough with it to be able to use it. That's what my Krav Maga instructor said anyway, and he knows people who're very good at it. Krav is certainly one of the quickest to learn and actually become applicable in real life, though.

I had only really done basic stuff like: hitting efficiently, taking hits ,falling properly, etc. So that sort of stuff is really useful in a lot of situations. Im sure the more advanced stuff takes a lot of practice, like you say. I'v never found any other martial art that gives you something that you can actually use until your well into it.

Yeah, conditioning and taking hits are things Systema is good for I'm told. I really want to get into it at some point actually, if I can find a decent place for it. Gonna wait till I'm a bit better at Krav before I start looking at other systems though :)

Krav is similar to Systema in that way too; it teaches you things you can apply in the real world right from the get-go.

I spent a few years doing kick boxing, good for keeping fit.

Trying to get back into shape, lost one stone over the last 2 weeks just from eating healthily and working hard. Would love to join and old fashioned boxing club but can't find one anywhere even remotely local :(

I think the most fun martial art I would like to try would have to be:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capoeira

Saw it live in Ibiza, very impressive.

Second on the list would the one Bruce Lee developed:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeet_Kune_Do

I think that would be extremely interesting.

However, I doubt anywhere but large cities have clubs that do either of these :(

As said in post just before yours that I used to do Jeet Kune Do and this was in Weymouth, Dorset. Our training was made up of Kali, Boxing, thai boxing, Judo, Tai Chi and wing chun. The most lethal of these was kali.

Yeah Kali is pretty awesome.

The guy in the plain red jacket with no gold trim is Kali; the other is Silat.

Ninjutsu, as it encompasses parts from many other forms.

Applied properly, most people aint got a clue WTF just happened to them. Did it for a bit, but was in an "unorthodox" school, and just ended up getting battered about. Learnt some very useful stuff, saved my skin on more than a few occasions.
