Because it works, taking song lyrics to seriously or literally will always disappoint!I can’t deny how anthemic it is but that has one of the all time most grating and daft set of contradictory lyrics ever…

And when they were up they were up. And when they were down they were down. And when they were only halfway up they were neither up nor down.
She’s got a sister. And god only knows how I’ve missed her. And on the palm of her hand is a blister. And I need more time.
like I said, songs are full of this stuff. Noel was young and inexperienced when he wrote these songs and I'm sure he wouldn't use the rhymes these days but then he probably wouldn't write the songs as they are too simple etc they capture a moment in time perfectly and they are generation defining anthems that have stood the test of time so I really wouldn't over think it!I’m not against strange or minimalistic lyrics that convey (by themselves or via their delivery) emotion or intrigue, even if their true meaning is not obvious.

Loads of bands write borderline nonsense most of Feeders Lyrics make very little sense but some of the songs are still in my all time favourites list because they evoke a time and a feeling.Bjork, that's you!
I love her though because she's mad with her lyrics. Plus, she wore a bin liner on TOTPs when she performed "Army of Me" Musically though, she's pretty talented.
Cigarettes and Alcohol (although I don't approve of either)
