What’s your no.1 oasis song ?

I was at a restaurant once and they had Tomato soup and Oasis soup. I asked "What's Oasis soup?"
The waiter replied, "Same as Tomato soup but you get a roll with it".

Got to be Wonderwall my favourite song.

Because it works, taking song lyrics to seriously or literally will always disappoint!

I’m not against strange or minimalistic lyrics that convey (by themselves or via their delivery) emotion or intrigue, even if their true meaning is not obvious.

With that said, “slowing walking ‘down the hall, faster than a canon-ball” is Grand Old Duke of York’ levels of inane ‘something needs to go here’ nonsense:

And when they were up they were up. And when they were down they were down. And when they were only halfway up they were neither up nor down.

:o

I don’t think the chorus of Champagne Supernova falls foul of this rule as that invokes a sense of wonder or feelings of ‘willingly burning out’. That works!

There was one other lyric on the What’s the Story album that bothered me…

She’s got a sister. And god only knows how I’ve missed her. And on the palm of her hand is a blister. And I need more time.

like I said, songs are full of this stuff. Noel was young and inexperienced when he wrote these songs and I'm sure he wouldn't use the rhymes these days but then he probably wouldn't write the songs as they are too simple etc they capture a moment in time perfectly and they are generation defining anthems that have stood the test of time so I really wouldn't over think it!

Hang on, is it not a song about a car?

Reading the lyrics after all these years I see that it doesn't actually seem to say Champagne Vauxhall Nova after all...

Bjork, that's you!

I love her though because she's mad with her lyrics. Plus, she wore a bin liner on TOTPs when she performed "Army of Me" :p Musically though, she's pretty talented.
Loads of bands write borderline nonsense most of Feeders Lyrics make very little sense but some of the songs are still in my all time favourites list because they evoke a time and a feeling.

Similarly a huge amounts of Nirvana’s songs make little to no sense and in a lot of cases are just unrelated rhyming couplets that Kurt patches together
