What's your upgrade next month?

I'm serious thinking of buying the Dell 24" panel .. the A04 revision.. looks to be one of the best TFTs on the market.

I'm not due any upgrade until November.. New CPU due then.

The 2600xt if it comes out and is actually better than the 8600gts. If not then im gona wait till crysis and then make a decesion.

Hopefully an Abit IP35-PRO, some G.Skill HZ 6400, and a Core 2 Duo (unless the Quads drop significantly in price).

These will then be overclocked to within an inch of their life, as does all my hardware :p

Actually I guess I should add watercooling and possibly a 2nd HD2900XT to my list (although crossfire could wait a few months).

Should be a nice boost from what was my rig last month:

X2 3800+
Abit AN8-SLI
1GB G.Skill PC4400
2x 512MB 7800GT's

Wont you guys wait till the proper Quads come out? Yes the Kentsfields will be cheap in a months time, but i bet half of the people actually buying them, wont even use it to its full potential, since most applications dont even take advantage of 4 Cores yet.

Maybe power supply as the StealthXStream although cheap and effective is far from stealthy, and I might look into hard disk upgrades although these 7200.7s are still running smoothly.

stickroad: Most games maybe, but SupCom does and I tend to do a lot of video editing which would definitely benefit from 4 CPUs. Ruled it out though as it would mean an entire platform change which I can't afford, price cuts or no.

Q6600 at minimum, maybe one of those dual quadcore supporting motherboards if they aren't ridiculously expensive. (I do lots of rendering whilst at uni)

New set of RAM

Think thats it :)

Q6600 also, along with Samsung SATA Lightscribe DVD-RW and DVD-ROM, Crucial 2GB DDR2 5300 and WD or Samsung 500GB SATA hard drive with Vista Home Prem 64 to complete my upgrade.

Current Spec:
A64 x2 4200+
1.5 RAM
160 x 2 SATA HDD
Geforce 7900GT 256mb

I would love a Q6600 and 4GB of Ram and a new P35 mobo.

Was going to wait for Penryn but tbh I don't think it will be much better, even if it is for £150 quad core who cares

Dual LGA771 motherboard = ridiculously expensive by definition :p

Yup. That's why I just bought the E4300 to tie me over and the a E6600 next month or equivalent. Then I'll get a real quad core next year - possibly.

Oh Darn. Was always hoping for a modern equivalent of the Dual Xeons I have (same as yours) :D
As am I. Lay-z-boy mentioned in Gibbo's Xeon 3200 thread a mobo called SkullTrail for which I am waiting with bated breath.
Little is known of Skulltrail, other than it will be a dual-socket, dual-core platform due later in the year. Rival AMD has already disclosed the Quad FX (also known as "4X4"), a dual-socket platform that can hold AMD's Athlon 64 X2 processors. Intel executives declined to comment further.

Intel also said that it plans "hardware support" for DirectX 10 graphics, most likely the creation of an integrated or possibly standalone DX10 graphics chip.

Might get this,

Gigabyte GA_P35_DS3R
Akasa Eclipse 62 Aluminium Case
GeIL 2GB (2x1GB) PC6400C4 800MHz Ultra Low Latency DDR2
Intel Core 2 Quad Pro Q6600

If the cpu drops as much as anticipated.
Current rig is
Opteron 185
2 Gb of G.Skil ram
Epox 9NPA+SLI
