Wheel Alignment - ATS or Independent with Hunter system?

Hi all,

I'm getting 4 new boots fitted and an MOT at ATS today. As far as I'm aware they don't have Hunter Alignment systems so is it worth taking my car to get this done elsewhere in Leicester at a place that does have them?

Infact, would you trust ATS to fit new tyres, I'm a bit OCD about my alloys and am getting a bit apprehensive now. I'm wondering if it's better to just pick the tyres up from them (as they've been delivered there via black circles) and take them to a proper tyre shop.

What car is it? I use hunter alignment on my Subaru but only because it needs it - not all cars have adjustment for camber, caster toe etc so you may be wasting money. IIR ATS are just basic alignment guys and they don't do the full 4 wheel thing but open to correction, haven't used them for years.

MK3 Ford Focus.

Its all about the method and attention to detail rather than the equipment used. I have previously aligned my car with string and plumb bobs pretty much dead on, confirmed by a fancy laser alignment machine.

Just had my fronts on the TT done by ATS (Whilst in for two new tyres) and, other than the whole process taking over 2 hours, they seem to have sorted the issues. I had a new steering rack on the car and then it sat for an age so I knew it would be off but it was so off it was triggering a fault on the steering angle sensor! That appears to have been resolved now and the steering wheel is now straight...probably not 100% but miles better than before. He said bring it back in a week and they'll check it over for free to make sure it's all ok.

On this topic...has anyone tried DIY? you can buy kits on ebay?

Wouldn't be taking a TT to ATS, I used the wheel alignment centre in Southampton - like many things in life you cant beat experience, the chap that runs that place could sort your Audi in 20 minutes, probably quicker

You can't get the best alignment by only doing the fronts from what I've been told. You have to start at the rear and then do the front.
