Wheel vs controller

I've been playing Forzza and PGR4 of late against the chaps at work and every one of them keeps telling me to ditch the wheel and just use the controller.

I've got on really well with the wheel (official xbox jobbie) and actually struggle with the controller now. Does anyone else find this??

It depends on the person, I am pretty ok with the wheel, but I know pad users that are as good...

The wheel seems more consistent for people in the series I race in, the pad users are often as quick, but do struggle with consistency...

If you look at top 50 leaderboard times there is a mix of wheel/pad users from my own knowledge, neither seems to stand out..

I've always used the controller, might be something to do with me only just started learning to drive though. Perhaps I'd enjoy a wheel more now, still think my times would be better with a pad.

Takes me a while to get in to the swing of using a wheel, I have the MS one as well.

but when I do I think I am a little faster then with a pad and without wanting to sound big-headed I am pretty good with a pad.

I don't often bother getting the wheel out though but I think if I did and put more time in I would be even better using it.

Depends on the game. Dirt2/Grid, for me im happy with either, the old collin mcrea's and toca's id go for the wheel everytime.. but thats mainly based on if im playing on the pc or ps3.

What realy got me in to using the wheels in the first place was daytona in the arcades, before that they were tacked on in nearly every case.

Be interesting to see which side of the fence Gt5 falls on, being ps3 only.. i get playing it on a pad, be hard to swap over to my momo... which won't do the nascar justice, but wouldn't be so bad on the tracks.

i love using the wheel and pedals but sometimes when i want a race but am a bit tired it puts meoff playing because its a biy of an effort.

I find there's not enough range in the steering with the pad - it's hard to steer gently. I'm picking up a wheel, so I'll let you know how I find it.

the only real issue i have with the wheel is that it took a small amount of time to setup and get comfortable. However, i've now converted an old laptop stand and set up the wheel to the exact height and the pedals to the exact distance. Now all I have to do is drag the "unit" from behid the sofa plug in the power and off I go :)

Always preferred to use a pad rather than a wheel.
Apart from when playing Porsche Challenge which felt much better using the wheel.

To the OP if playing PGR4 IMO you will be faster with the pad as it's easier to use the e-brake which is essential for being quick through the corners.

When PGR4 first came out there was a championship going on over at Pistonheads and the fastest players were pad users. I don't like using a pad for driving games and felt slightly disadvantaged using a wheel although I can be more precise through corners with one.

Also some people say with a pad it's easier and quicker to make fast changes in direction.
