Wheelie bin confiscation..

I'm not a bin men but why should they have to take the bins back for you? I mean... come on, are you that lazy that you can't just drag them back yourself ? It takes like 10 seconds... Could you imagine how much longer their job would take if they were required to do that in every single house? Who do you think is going to pay for that? Er.. you are.

Duh

Residents make sure they are out of the way, bin men, just throw them on the pavement usually in pairs. We then take our own bins back to where they are stored.

I think we would be quite happy if they managed to put them even remotely out of the way, yes its possible and no they dont bother.

Put your bin in the street, hide in said bin, await "confiscation" and jump out for hilarity?

Would be ok but would the £11 really cover the costs of actually policing the whole thing? If not then I'd rather my council tax was used on front line services rather then something like this that only generates 300 compliants a year.

How about, when bin men work ridiculously early and someone works night shifts and continues to sleep about 6 hrs AFTER the wheelie bins have been emptied, sorry but imho you can't force people to be awake and move some bins some binmen left out in the middle of the streets THEY touched them, you left them in a safe place before, why should you **** up your sleeping pattern for some binmen ?

Luckily we don't have wheelie bins in our area, all trash is stored in big containers at the end of every street and emptied on thursdays morning. But I'd hate to live in one of the areas that do have them...

Snowdog, I'd imagine it's for the people who leave the bins out for days after they've been emptied...
Given that it's two weeks between the same bin being emptied (around here it's alternating weeks for recycling and non recycling), I can quite imagine some people leaving the bins out for days at a time.

I guess I agree then, but still, on my day off in the past I used to not even get dressed-go outside in the past, sometimes when I'm broke I still do that, I'd certainly not feel obliged to get dressed, go out, and retract my bin...

I'd rather not live in an area with em anyhow, either normal larger containers near the car parking or underground containers are a far better idea...

I don't think larger communal bins would be much better - for one thing in many parts of the country you wouldn't have space for them...wheely bins are small enough that you can put them by the garden path etc, and even on fairly small streets aren't much of a problem.
Larger communal bins require the equivalent of a car parking space every few houses, which on a lot of streets is going to be a major issue, especially as most new developments seem to have been done on the basis of one car per house, narrow roads and zero spare communal space.

Even on our street (1970's, much more space between houses than many modern estates), wouldn't have anywhere really for larger bins (at least not without them being unsightly or in the way) - especially as the big bins are heavy enough when full that the chances are they cannot be manhandled easily, thus you're likely to need to be able to get the bin lorries in closer to them.

Where I live wheelie bins are used to enforce an unofficial residents parking scheme. They’re left on the road outside house to reserve places for the owner. There is a problem with commuters parking in the day but it's only a matter of time before the bins causes a big argument. They should be fined.

Bin men ALWAYS leave ours over the path. Im sure it would almost break them to push it the 2 foot back onto our drive. numerous photos, telephone calls and emails. sweet FA done about it.
