When are you going fully electric?

Yeah it's really left a soul taste in my mouth about him too. He was like a "designer" Clarkson; but he's turning into an absolute clown with each and every EV review he does. He seems to be getting a pretty large JLR stipend as well, making him completely untrustworthy/non-independent on anything he says.

Update on my EV search - the Model Y is current favourite; but I am battling the maths below:

LNbWn4V.png

The Cost column is relative to the Peugeot (568/mo). I need something that fits on my slightly constrained drive - right now I can orientate the Pug so I can get my E43 off of it quite easily. I was VERY tempted by the Model Y, but given it exceeds £40k and is quite a bit more expensive (£2k/year) I am thinking very hard with brain vs. heart (quite like the idea of a Tesla for a minute or two).

Looks like the Renault Scenic could be the best value and size.

My Pug isn't due till July but I understand the Lux tax goes on for cars registered past April --- this means for the Tesla I'd be inclined to pay an early redemption fee equal to like £800. For the Scenic, subject to price increasing, I could let the Pug wash out. I'm well in on mileage although I have some damage to repair.

I think the MG4 is an impossible prospect to overlook if you are looking for a hatch. It is insane value for money -- I am trying to find a car that works as a main family car though; so the E43 just becomes exclusive to work trips where I can get 45p/mile. This is what made the Model Y really compelling - but the £2k extra cost would become £2k+£800 or £2k+£380x3.
I've got an ID.5, and it's an awful car. It went to the dealer for a three-day software update. The infotainment system crashes randomly, and occasionally, the rear camera decides not to work. Plus it only gets about 200 miles on its 77kwh battery without me thrashing it.

I can't imagine the ID.4 you're looking at will be any better.

My wife thought the ID4 was massive compared to the MG4, the ID7 looks huge.
She sat in the ID4 and didn't feel right.
Yeah MG4 is absolute favourite for her independence; even the MG4 isn't "small" though is it? It's only a bit shorter than the Pug.

An old 205 or a Saxo would have been perfect for her tbh

less the scenic - the megane e-tech has got the android automotive (none of this proprietary junk) reviews well, saloon profile, with low profile/blade batteries ... and has lower depreciation than most because unfortunately everyone knows that ... so 30% more on 2nd hand market. ... several hundred k's less than id3 too.

I think the ID 7 is about 10-15cm longer than an E class, but it seemingly has a short bonnet too.

Best way to tell is that when looking at an ID 7, the 19 inch alloys look dwarfed by the amount of material around them. The E class, not so much.

ID 7 is very bus like and feels massive on the road.
Yeah I'd have no problems - I just didn't find it a small snug car like you said. It felt massive compared to the E43. The reason it is a non starter for my new use case is it's just too big for my wife.
Just checked the stats and 4949mm vs 4961mm

Must just be in the proportions

Her number one tick box was being able to get in it and you can raise the seat really high so she hasn't got to get too low.
A couple of the other cars also had high seats but didn't tick other boxes eg 360 camera was a must and a largish boot for my band gear.

Renault 5 configurator and pricing now available:

I think I'd want the 150hp Iconic given I'd be coming from a 150hp Leon FR, bit disappointing the colour options become more limited the further up the trim levels you go though.

Lot of ID.7 talk, I've done around 3K miles in an ID.7 87Kwh Match Pro S (int/ext packs and has DCC), around 600 miles in a BMW i5 M60 and have Model Y (probably only done 3k miles in that myself).

The ID.7 feels much longer than the Model Y (its only 20cm), most of that is simply the dash/windscreen/seating position of the Model Y gives you this really good view out the front, to a point the Mrs (who prefers smaller cars) is happy with the Model Y, it feels more expansive on the inside than the ID.7, whilst somehow feels smaller on the road by a degree..

If I was coming from the ID.3 (our previous EV) to the ID.7, I'd think it was a nice step up and would echo many peoples experiences, but when I compare to the Model Y / i5, now that it's pricing is £80pm more than an AWD Model Y for the Match Pro S with packs, the Tesla feels a step up in so many ways.

1. It's infinitely quicker (even the RWD Model Y feels quick, the AWD feels like a rocket ship)
2. The boot underfloor/frunk spaces are so nice in addition to the boot area being almost identical to the ID.7 (Distance to rear seats, width, distance to front seats once the rear seats are down)
3. The SW Updates and extra features (Dog mode, theatre mode etc) make the Model Y feel technologically a step up (when in reality if you consider just the basics it is a mixed bag)
4. Charge planning / Supercharger stuff just takes a huge degree of charge anxiety away, the Mrs happily goes to London with her friends, setting off with 20% charge and just lets the car plan, she'd never public charge in the ID.3)
5. I thought the sportier setup was a negative, but you can push the Model Y and it feels quick, it gives the Model Y an extra dimension whilst actually having comfortable seats and on long journeys you never feel like you've done the miles (just like the ID.7)
6. The app, sentry mode, using your phone as a key are a step up from the VW platform
7. One Pedal Driving (Y oh Y oh Y doesn't VW have this) and general smoothness of control from/to a stop is noticeably better
8. The stock interior materials and options is insane, you need the int/ext/pan roof options to match (and slightly beat in some areas)
9. Third party accessories are plentiful, the Enhance auto stuff really is a very good system that adds / augments the standard features nicely
10. Geekily the access to your own data and ability to collect it all yourself (e.g. Teslamate) is first class.
11. The Model Y is much lighter (>200Kg) and for the same journeys, I'm getting around 0.5m/kwh more in the Model Y.

The ID.7 however has some strengths too!
1. Lovely Heads Up/Mini Driver display is perfect iMO (Y oh Y oh Y can't Tesla give the Model Y/3 something similar!)
2. The ride on some surfaces is lovely and compliant and at times feels really good (albeit it makes it one dimensional IMO).
3. The overall practicality for the class of car is good (even if not as practical as the Model Y, it's still impressive)
4. The infotainment is the best on the MEB platform I've tried (albeit not as good as Tesla)
5. It's quite a universally liked car, you don't get the Stigma of Audi/BMW man
6. At 70mph, the ID.7 might be a touch quieter, maybe.

The i5 really only has a few positives over the other two
1. The interior feels a class above.
2. The suspension is literally almost perfect as a GT car, you get a degree more comfort yet it can be pushed.
3. The Badge/grill and external lighting looks the most modern IMO.
4. I would put performance in here, but the M60 is over £100k so you'd kind of expect the 600 ponies for the asking price!

All very much a personal assessment there, the one thing the Model Y does is hide its size really well, I've had X3 owners say they wouldn't mind electric but would want something bigger than the Model Y so as to be the same size as their X3, which when you get them to sit in and open the boot etc they soon realise it's identical in dimensions with more interior space.. just the boot height at the back is the only obvious difference.

Basically the perfect car for me would be the Model Y with i5 suspension and ID.7 drivers display/HUD..

Like I said at the intro, the cost difference now makes the ID.7 not the standout bargain it used to be, absolutely a good choice for those that took advantage!

Advice from my Octopus iGo buddy's please:

I was surprised to see it go straight to charge.
Does the below mean it's charging at 7p/Kw?
Also could my wife turn the washing machine on at those times for 7p/Kw?

Thats my understanding, any scheduled period the whole house is at that..

I hope I am not corrected!

That's also interesting, I see how connecting to the charger works now! just ask it to add 80%, where as with the car it knows the charge level so generally gives you far less slots..
I'm waiting for Hypervolt to roll out Octopus integration for their V2 products which they said should be before the end of the year and I'd probably switch over, just add 100% every time to try to get extra slots.. Or would they twig on?

Let me address that one.
When I first used it I was on 81% so went to the car and changed it to 100%, I can't do 90%.
I set the APP to 90% but in the morning it charged to 100%.
Now the car is set to 80% it only does that.

cards on the table i do not know the reliability of the source however this was an interesting to me read, to see what the guys over the pond think about our EV roll out, also to see them make no bones about who they think is at fault for the whining from companies like Ford who have done very little to prepare for it compared to other companies which have.

We had our first snow last night and I was rather wary about driving the Leaf in it but I was worrying over nothing. It tackled the snow with no wheel spinning or sliding and the Dunlop All Season 2's I fitted are brilliant in the snow.
A couple of years ago we have heavy snow, I was worried when I first drove in it with my Tesla, I had nothing to fear. It handled it amazingly.

It comes in yellow..... no need to look any further :D

visually i absolutely love it, its my favourite looking smallish car at the moment, esp with the red and black highlights on it. if i had 1 minor gripe that i would change its the door handles. its a shame they do not have the flush ones which pop out when stationary (though i guess in icey weather i may feel different)

hopefully they will add them in in the inevitable 3 year or so facelift (iirc they were on the concept edition).

If you're on IO, the whole estate get 7p pkw between 23:30-05:30 everyday, plus any time slots you have on the app there. So you have 15:20 to 16:30 and 20:30 to 05:30 at 7p.

This was mine today

A couple of years ago I had an horrific time getting home from a pub at 1.30 in the morning with all my band gear in a Ford B-Max and only lived 1.5 miles away.
It still remains one of my most traumatic moments having £1000s of gear in the car and I'm stuck.
My drummer on the other hand drove 40 miles to Stockport in his Tesla with zero problems :)
