When are you going fully electric?

Before I do something daft chaps - is it for certain lux tax on EV only applies to 1st April cars?

Additional rate (expensive car supplement)

For new electric vehicles with a list price exceeding £40,000, you will now need to pay the expensive car supplement from the second tax payment onwards. This applies to vehicles registered on or after 1 April 2025.

People get on at VW for the sliders but some cars don't have a slider at all and only use the screen but somehow there's far less hate?
Agree.

And there’s a button on the wheel for volumes. The temp on screen you just slide to change. No menus needed. If you are still struggling then there’s the voice control which works well.

I do like the Kia EV6 panel that’s switchable buttons though

Rear screens do get dirty, muddy, dusty, covered in bird excrement... it is nice to have a wiper with a wash function sometimes. It's not hard to admit that is it?

It simply isn't my experience after years of owning saloon cars. The rear screen doesn't get dirty, dusty or whatever and consequently doesn't need one.

By contrast the rear screen of our hatchback does get dirty very quicky and wow, it has one fitted. It's almost like the manufacturers know what they are doing :D

So the issue then isn't that the car doesn't have one on the back it's that you park under a tree and use it to clear that off, not sure that was the intention behind it :D
That's what I mean, everyone's situation is different. For some it works, for others it doesn't. However, regardless of my personal circumstances, having a rear wiper is still better than not, I personally feel. Reversing off the driveway on a dark, rainy evening, even with perfectly clean glass, is much easier in my partners hatch with a wiper :)

Almost every car review I've ever watched where the controls are either VW sliders or integrated into the display has them being criticised, the latter even more so.

Basically a short to medium term hire car. All the same T&Cs as the main car - monthly payments are slightly higher as it's short term but gets through any "gap" waiting for the EV to be delivered.

They appear to be pool cars and you (if expressed interest) get notified if one comes in. Downside is you have to be quick and have no choice over what it is - take it or leave it !

@Goodie - interim looks like it should be here within a week or so - Nissan Aryia

Then a kick in the proverbials that looks like Audi are going to **** their Belgian factory which makes the Etron Q8 and therefore me getting mine looks like a very slim chance indeed .....

Spoke to Octopus a short while ago and they're going to get back to me with the latest "nearly new" list - failing that I'm thinking Q6 Quattro Edition 1 with Sound and Vision Pack, Pano roof, towbar and carbon fibre mirrors

Works out almost the same price as the fully loaded Q8!

But

Anticipated delivery July to September next year

Will keep you updated

I kept asking for updates and was told early December, then mid December, then December, then February then I had an official headed letter to say there was a parts delay in the factory and it would be January at the earliest. I think Easter, have they inferred that you may not get yours at all then? I have read that the factory was going to get wound down but that was in the summer. Fortunately my car is behaving itself for the time being so my desperation has subsided.

It's a bit all over the place isn't it!

Octopus can't guarantee or confirm anything other than official word from Audi that it is looking at further delays (currently Feb to march)

Took a call with Octopus and they actually have a brand new Q6 is ready for delivery but basic model and no option to customise so have passed

They're was a surprising amount of cars in the nearly new list and two took my eye

23 plate Taycan - 5k miles

23 Plate Audi GT Vorsprung trim - 20k miles

They are both c£80 a month more than the new Q8 and available 4-6 weeks ......

Ibe discounted the Porsche as it's white with "Blackberry" interior (i.e. purple!!)

The Audi is black, just checking the interior colour on that but suspect, so long as it's black, I'll be going for that !

Does anybody know what the cars are in these deals? Don't know if I an be bothered to take a call with them if someone already knows. :)

It will likely be boring coming from an M3, but its a pleasure to drive. I wanted the MY Performance, but they wasn't selling them in the UK at the time so had to get the LR AWD with inductions but I paid for acceleration boost to give it that edge, it was a noticeable boost. If you were minded to do it, you can get a full refund within a day or two of use to see if you like it.

I drove the Y Long Range and New Model 3 Performance in September. To my surprise I didn't miss the theatre of an engine as much as I thought I would. I liked both but preferred the updated exterior, seating position and wrap around cabin and acoustic glass in the Model 3. If I didn't need the practicality of a cavernous boot and they were costing the same on the SS I would have picked the 3 over the Y.

If I need a thrill I'll jump back on to a sports bike :)

I've not once wished I had one on any of my saloon cars. It's just never an issue.
I definitely miss one on my Model Y. The rear view isn't great anyway, but road dirt builds and only washing the car gets rid of it - it'd definitely be helpful to have a rear wiper.

EDIT: Overnight rain doesn't do that much either, neither does all the water sloping off the back when you set off after a rain. It just stays a bit dirty :p

Model Y already has acoustic glass AKA double glazed front and back.

But agree that the looks and tweaks to the interior on the Model 3 are nice , looking forward to the Juniper Model Y and hoping somehow they have adaptive suspension like the Model 3 Performance, we all want the option of comfort at times!

Very much agree, neither my two Audi's, A3 & A4 saloons, even the rear window of my series 2 gc doesn't. Unlike our fiesta which has to have the the rear wiper on all the time.
Every hatchback does it, makes one wonder why they've never done anything about it other than stick something on the back that was invented in 1903.

if it's a hatch or estate, like my last 3 cars they have inferior aerodynamics so you're getting a vacuum at the back that causes the dirt to be pulled in - no nice lamina flow ...
but that's the price you pay for the practical loading space - versus the practicality of a (tear drop) ioniq6

Ionia 5 face lift needed a rear wiper as they hadn’t managed rear soiling properly and the rear screen gets filthy.

There’s no laminar flow on a car anyway.

Model Y back down to a sensible price - I'm just not convinced the size will work just yet. I may have to do the test drive and race back home to see if it fits sensibly.

Renault really hard to ignore but I hate the idea of cloth seats given the cost. You can't even option leather by the looks of it. Explorer plugs that gap with partial leather - however I then have to suffer the VW parts bin crap. The Renault infotainment seems much better and its basically android, so gives me a bit more confidence.

Wildcard Model 3 - the regular one I don't need to do any man maths on, I can just wait till July as its under 40k. I'm not sure I like the idea of no indicator stalk etc... Too distracting for my relatively new driver wife.

So probably common sense says:
Renault (weighing infotainment highly) -> Ford (benefit of partial leather) > Model Y

Adjacent requirement sense says:
Model Y (definitely big enough to replace E43 for all family duties) -> Model 3 Long Range (possibly big enough to replace E43 for family duties) -> Ford Premium (full leather) -> Renault (good infotainment) -> Ford Select (half leather, less favourable infotainment).

Edit: Reno only one in a non-gash colour too. Ain't no way I am paying to paint a lease car.
