When are you going fully electric?

Think I'm going to make the switch this year. Though annoyingly the stupid tax increase takes a bit of the shine from it all

Though, I'm tempted to lease this time so doesn't make too much difference

You’ll save the cost of tax in fuel within a couple of months. I’ve driven 24k miles in mine and saved over 3 grand in fuel alone…

I was sat in traffic yesterday (shock) and was flicking through the cars computer. I've had the car since new. It's done around 15.5k miles and I've averaged 28.3 MPG during that time... Then worked out, as an example, a Model 3 would cost maybe £6 to charge up at home and that would get me through a week, maybe even 10 days. I think it's costing me about £6 a day to and from work!!

Tell you what. Being poor is expensive!

After fuel savings, VED and servicing, when I took the Ioniq lease I ended up spending about £10 per month more. Bring poor doesn't mean you can't rejig the out goings

Oh, for me if I was to lease a Model 3 AWD over 48 months and 12k miles, it's actually £1 less than I am currently paying. Of course the insurance is more but then I'm also not paying the same £52 in tax I currently pay.

I think I'd actually be £150 a month better off! That's assuming they still have the good lease deals later in the year. We're looking to move into our new home in April/May so I don't really want to be messing around with anything financial until then

if you go 2nd hand and buy it before end of march you can tax it for free till end of march 2026 so there is that at least.

i agree tho i am a bit cheesed off that they are retrospectively taxing EVs but letting "ECO" diesels still pay the better part of sod and all tax. imo if they want to do it they should do it for ALL cars or start with new ones from April and leave old ones alone.. I personally dont think a pre April 2025 EV should ever pay more tax than any ICE vehicle.

going forward from April they can do what they wanti guess. its the retrospective cherry picking of EVs which gets me.

I totally would if we didn't have an impeding move on the cards. I remember when we bought our current house a few years ago our mortgage advisor warned me about getting anything on credit/finance until you're in the house.

Looking to move in hopefully April/May so I think really it'll be the summer I'm looking at making the switch,

Impressive.

Indeed and Amazon is the sort of player that can invest in the infrastructure needed on their own estate to make it work very well.

The Electro Trucker videos also highlight a lot of the challenges of doing long distance as an early adopter though.

He is very much on board with EVs in general and has a very positive take on his experience and demonstrates it can be done with standard 350kwh chargers en-route. Depo and overnight chargers can be much slower.

However, the current status quo even with the better infrastructure in Germany is far from ideal (e.g. charging the truck in a stall designed for a car).
