When are you going fully electric?

I'll never buy an electric vehicle, they have no soul

Maybe it’s me but the negativity towards EV didn’t really exist until the culture wars started. The last 3 or 4 years, the populist right has used EVs as a weapon in their fight against anything remotely liberal. Populism is basically taking us backwards as a human race, we refuse to take the words of experts and would rather listen to the likes of Trump, Boris et al. You only have to look at the characters that are typically anti EV on the socials, the likes of Mcmaster, who reminds of 30p Lee Anderson.

Did anyone ever look at a milk float and say "I have to have one of those"?

Funnily enough cars have always been a noisy metal can for me and even though I haven't used the words 'Milk Float' I do tell people I have a souped up Bumper Car which is the first car since 1975 I've ever wanted to drive.
My wife has always drove 99% of the time since 1975, this is the first car I now pick the keys up first, to me it has got the best 'soul' of any car I've owned.
I suppose because I've always been a geek and had to be first to have technology.

Do you really need a car with soul to trundle down the M6 or drive to work, or do the school run.

The car with soul is still available for the jaunts round mallory. I took out a Model Y LR, an ordinary 40k family chariot that will embarrass quite a lot of cars on the road. With the modern car (ie last 20 years) being so lardy, having a lot of sound deadening, electric power steering etc etc, how much feel and soul is in them? Even a Focus ST weighs a stupid amount.

This is soul.
Two of the best drivers cars ever made. Electric cars will never be able to put a smile on your face in the same way.

Correct, and neither will 99% of any current petrol car and anyone saying otherwise is an idiot.

Did anyone ever look at a milk float and say "I have to have one of those"?

No, but then I've also never looked at a petri dish of herpes and thought "I have to have one of those" either.

Well literally only those two exist, no one has one like them so pointless. Also great way to predict the future, I doubt you've driven the cars you have quoted so not sure how you can comment through YouTube video, jpaul is that you? :p

that's what the chinese want too - the car just takes you autonomously/self-drive where you want to go, meanwhile you just play with your phone

Neighbour 100yds down the road has a red&black Kia ev Soul - they are distinctive and the practicality is evident - cute.

you can afford to be a holier than thou evangilist - if you're not recipient of a sweet bik/fleet deal.
still looks like that paywalled times article says reeves will give the great unwashed a 0% ev loan - so the tax-payer will foot some of the liability to democratize ownership - she's a good stand-up act.

For me, an internal combustion engine is more than just a power source, it's a direct connection between the driver and the road. Did anyone ever look at a milk float and say "I have to have one of those"?
I only own "spicy" cars, not "white goods" cars
A Suv isn't a spicy car no matter which way you look at it.

Erm no, you can order the Alfa from alfaholics for around £450K and the Porsche for around £800k :D Other presenters / youtubers have driven these cars and they all exude pure joy.

So a totally and utterly pointless comparison from the 41.7 million registered vehicles on UK roads, there would be less I can count on both hands. Next you'll be telling me you only buy your wife jewellery that has been owned by the royal family.

I try and ignore the trolls normally - I replied to this one once as a courtesy…

I’m not trolling anyone. The conversation started about cars having soul. I posted two cars that I believe have “soul”. Soul is measured by the feelings / emotions expressed by the driver behind the wheel.

If I won the lottery, I’d buy those cars in a heartbeat. But until then, my manual M2 will have to do.

Apologies actually, I was confusing you with the other guy I replied to this morning who started it.

I don’t thinks cars have a soul - I don’t even believe humans have them…
