When are you going fully electric?

Interesting, I was there competing there in my stock-ish Mk3 MX-5, considerably slower still (obviously) and didn't even notice there was a M3P there/on the entry list :p

I'd imagine it'd do even better at a hillclimb like Wiscombe where that acceleration is even more important than at Castle Combe

Combe is wide and not very technical perfect for an EV, just about power, Wis is tighter and technical, the Tesla is too much of a tank, doubt it'd do that well, but 4wd EV traction could claw back more than I'd think, it'd probably fire out of Sawbench up the hill lovely.

I was thinking the initial launch then again out of the Wis Corner, Sawbench and even Martini Hairpin. But yeah that may not offset the Gate/Esses sections, I feel it would be not at all sure.

Also be interesting if there's one at the Great Western Sprint to get the time for a full lap of Combe...

I think he’s comparing traction control systems too rather than powertrain.

EV tend to have more grip as they have half a ton on each tyre!
It’s not as intrusive as 530+bhp (although most are measured at 600bhp) TC systems. Also not quite half a tonne. 460kg. Less than a C63S and more power too. The C63S was squirmy under heavy throttle as was the TTRS I had but less so.

Just ordered an Ioniq 5, due in 40 weeks. Having just come from the car industry I'm confident that will be pushed back.

My employer is having a number of chargers installed that will be free to use/heavily subsidised so it's a no brainer in terms of fuel savings.

Nice!

Any chance you can talk us through how you arrived at the Ioniq 5? Would be interesting to see what else you considered:)

In my opinion, the more I see of the Ioniq 5 the more I am convinced they are all style and no grace. They are trying too hard to be cool and failing. Like all fashion accessories they will be so last year before long. They won’t age well for looks.

I like the Ionic 5 styling, it reminds me of an integrale, if some one said it was an EV retro remake from Stellantis I would have believed it, missus wasn't a fan though, if the N comes with flared arches I'd probably soil my pants and put an order in for myself :D

EDIT - in fact I am not alone it seems

77kWh AWD 325 Ultimate in white.

Nice, had one for a week but in the Digital Teal green finish that changes colour from various angles, looked great in sunshine or cloud wasn't a fan of the white tbh. Really nice place to be inside though with so much real useable space, unlike a lot of the cramped SUV's, when you look at the Audi's and such they feel tiny inside comparably.

40 weeks lead time isn't too bad if you are happy to wait. I'll be ordering an Ioniq 6 once they are available, expecting a 1+ year wait though.

I considered an Ioniq but my local dealers couldn't even give a time frame for a demo unit last year.

Also considered an EV6 but just couldn't get on with the looks.

I ended up in an Extended Range AWD Ford Mach-E and am very happy with it. I got it out of stock new but the leads times now are massive (As with most stuff at present)

For me the choice came down to a combination of Price, Styling, Performance/Range and to some extent availability. Many things got ruled out on price alone. Lots got ruled out on platform, I wanted a platform built for BEV from the ground up, not an ICE conversion.

There are certainly far more choices cropping up as time parses. It wasnt on the radar when I bought but the Cupra BEV looks pretty sharp.

Absolutely huge IRL

This is my problem with it and ironically I thought it looked cool from web images. I had a test drive booked, went over on the agreed date and time. I took one look at it in real life and told the salesman I didn't want to waste his time. The size of the thing is just wrong for the small 80s hatch look they went for. In the end my wife convinced us to go back a few days later to test it anyway and meither of us were impressed with the wallowy floaty suspension. She was the one who said it was all style and no grace.

The same dealership had a Ford franchise and we did get to test a Mach-E which I loved, but my wife was not so impressed. Unfortunately when I priced up for my work leasing, it was £70 per moth more expensive than an I-Pace HSE. I got a HSE I-Pace MY2022 for the same lease price as an EV6 GT-Line and a lot cheaper than a Model Y, or Q4.

It isn't efficient, I'm getting about avg 3.1mi/kWh and about 260 miles of range. I also have no need for super fast rapid charging, so the relatively slow charging curve will not be an issue.

Interesting what you found with the iPace through your company scheme.

Our scheme is managed by Hitachi (Novuna now) and I found much the same. The iPace HSE Black in particular felt like a good buy because it was something like £5 a month more than the S and similar in cost to the EV6 GT line and BMw ix3. I have the iPace arriving in the next couple of weeks.

With a slightly obscene marginal tax rate (kids) and including the saving on fuel I will be paying a net £250 p/m (no deposit) and that covers all costs bar charging.

Whilst the iPace has been around for a while we just kept coming back to it when we looked at all the other similarly priced alternatives through the scheme.

This is exactly what happened to my wife and I, it looked great in the images but the first time we saw it in real life our reaction was very much 'what the **** is that?' and not in a good way. It's certainly not Fiat Multipla bad but I don't think it will age that well.

For me the EV6 is a much better looking car of the two, it was on my shortlist but we bought a Model 3 SR+ after considering most BEV's in that sort of price bracket.

EV6 was our top contender for the longest while just on how it looked, then we sat in it, in fact even before sitting in it, just getting in was no too smooth, the sloping windscreen and positioning of the seat actually made the thing harder to get in and out of than my MX 5, and once in, no matter what you did with the seat and the stupid headrest, it ruined the seating comfort, whoever designed that needs shot, seems tolerable in the Niro due to seat being more upright but it is still the most ridiculous thing I have come across in a car, can't fully sit back in the EV6 with its 3 or 4 stages of adjustment, weird, obviously we're the wrong size.

Nice to see they have ditched that garbage in the GT.

EV6 was way up my list, looked great, drove well and the interior was modern. In the end when it came down to the fact I could have an I-Pace with most of the trimmings for the same price, so I just went with the I-Pace because it had an undeniably more premium interior. Well that and the fact my wife basically decided the badge mattered.
