Agreed. Though too many use efficiency as a crutch to win arguments that an E-Tron, or an I-Pace is a crap EV. It is alien to a lot of EVangilists the fact that people may pick such cars because they are good cars, that happen to be electric. If the only EVs available were still Tesla, or Leafs, I would still be driving a diesel.
 
Don’t think I said that. I said at 60 it’s prob 4.5-5m. Not that I really care that much. It’s my alternative to my V8 but I don’t really drive it that hard and interested in the effects of usage on consumption. Best commute of 14miles is 5.8 in summer though. Lifetime average is 3.6 I think as I don’t worry too much about energy use if it means no extra stop. Speed is the obvious killer of range. Along with how many clothes your are wearing in the winter and of course rain has a great ability of slowing the car and cooling the battery. Tbh on a long trip I will charge it on a 7kW timed to finish when I leave so the battery is warm etc. mainly so I don’t have to stop.

I like the MEB platform and it’s honesty . If you use aircon to pre warm the car it includes that on the next journey energy use. Other OEMs seem to ignore stuff like that ( and overnight power drain)

Apologies you did say at 60mph, though that would still be too efficient from my experience of MEB cars. I wish it was accurate though because my next car might just be a used 58 kWh ID.3 or Born.

Most of those efficiency gauges also ignore charging losses so they aren't exactly getting everything anyway.

To be honest it is hard to get bang on figures generally, I take numbers put in from my Zappi charger but even that does a bit of rounding so tells me its putting in more KW than the smart meter logs, all over the place can only ever consider it ball park figure + or - a large percentage :D
 
How much was the preconditioning using? That has to be factored in to be fair (and accurate)
Didn't do or use much, and didn't have it the second leg of the journey where I got better efficiency.

OHME and Audi don't seem very well synced with the concept of pre-conditioning. On the Audi app I turned on the heating remotely, and in OHME I set it to max charge. Had to keep restarting it as it kept saying charging done.
 
It does when you use the charger as if time of use tariffs don't exist. But I charged the car to 100% during the overnight period and wasn't leaving till later in the morning. There's no 'pre-condition now' option in the app.

60 isn’t motorway speeds. And 1hour to do 36 miles doesn’t sound like a typically journey. You probably used most that energy trying to keep the car warm ?

I have 12k miles of tronity data and sat at 70 is 3.8-3.9. Even an ID Buzz will do 3.1-3.2 at 70mph.
I've no doubt a small hatchback is more efficient than a luxury SUV. The equivalent diesel version gets about 30mpg, so you can't expect miracles by electrifying it.

The main thing was that the car under estimated and over achieved. Something I often hear being the other way round. My leaf range takes a dramatic hit from motorway driving, so being able to get more than the estimate is a bonus.

I dont usually drive at 63, but not having to pay 61p a kw was worth it.
 
I struggle to maintain even 60mph on cruise control on M25 and surrounding motorways ie A1M/M1/M40/M4/M3/M23/M20/M2/M11

Although M20 do usually have a decent stretch of empty roads before hitting Maidstone when getting off M25.

Some times it feels like no mater how many lanes they put on the road, lorries and crawlers will just happy to take up every lane.

Lorries (big artic ones) are some of the worst offenders, they pop out from crawler lane or second from left for no reason and cut in front of traffic with no due care just cos they are massive and expect everyone to give way to them. Really think there should be a law that limits lorry’s availability on motorways. Ie if dual carriage, they aren’t allowed on second lane unless they are taking up position for a roundabout and they shouldn’t be allowed outside the left lane unless there are 4 lanes etc.

And the shameful thing about these lorries - most offenders are British plate ones

Test drove an i-Pace today and loved it, went out in a Tesla3 (again) and didn't love it, went out in a Polestar 2 and much preferred styling over Tesla . At the moment the i-Pace is winning!

Went to see my Dad today and there is a 75W charger approx 200 yards from him at a pub ;)

In fairness as someone who owns a Model 3, if you can afford an iPace and you are happy to spend that sort of money, I'm not really sure why you'd pick a Model 3 over an iPace, its just a completely different league when it comes to the interior/quality. You get what you pay for at the end of the day. I'd absolutely have one (or a fat etron) if money wasn't a consideration, I probably could have afforded it but I wasn't happy spending that kind of cash on a car.

I'm not sure how it works out on the monthlies but when I bought my Model 3, I'd have been looking at an additional £30k for an iPace and a waiting list measured in years not weeks. The used market at the time was just broken and not even a consideration. The used market now it is a very different proposition entirely.

Well it's £20k to PCH a base spec Ipace on a non-SS scheme for 24 months (5k miles PA), or £65k for a new one on AT. For the Model 3 LR £13.5k for the same duration and mileage, or from £46k for it new from Tesla. So still nearly £20k more to find if buying one, and again that is the base spec vs the LR, not the SR.
 
Mine was a SR which would amplify it further. Either way that’s a significant price delta which I presume gets bigger once you put a sensible mileage on the PCH. Does that iPace also need any options adding to it?

I’d say the more relevant competitor in the ‘sedan’ form factor is the BMW i4 given the Model 3 is more price competitive with a Hyundai Kona than an iPace.
 
Market arbitrates on the value of cars - rather than RRP for company car/bik ecosystem, but high PCH on i-pace had, with hindsight, forwarned on residuals.

Also not convinced the market has really bought into the tesla/id3 etc. spartan interior, the new Bauhaus, less is more, but, although musk seems to be sticking with it, & somewhat VW,
I think the consumer now starts to see spartan for what it is, cost cutting, and want the legacy comforts, binacle, stalks etc. offered on i-pace/mb/bmw.
 
I think the big recent improvements in charge infrastructure has made non-teslas more attractive.

A few years ago I wouldn't have considered anything but a Tesla for doing long journeys.

This is an ‘odd’ comment even for you.

Tesla Model Y - THE best selling car in the world - yet not sure the market buys into a minimalistic style interior.

Other manufacturers falling over themselves to mimic the approach E.g. the extremely well revived Volvo EX30. The i3 has a fantastic minimalistic interior and it predates the Model 3 by years.

I’m under no illusion that it’s not what the whole market wants though. That’s why there are range of models from a range of manufacturers who use a range of styles. The stalks thing is a bit of a jump into the unknown. That said, you could argue they copied Ferrari.

Tesla also aren’t competing with Merc, Audi and Jag, they are priced significantly lower and the quality reflects it. Think Hyundai, Kia and VW. That said, the interior of a Model 3/Y isn’t exactly cheap either, there are no hard plastics anywhere in the cabin, it’s all pretty decent quality these days, just not up there with with a Merc or Jag but as already noted already, the price reflect it.

We sat in an iPace when viewing EVs to lease. It was very nice inside, and actually my wife's favourite. Only reason we didn't pick it was the lack of rear leg room.

Your problem is you judge it as an EV instead of as a car. It is a great car that happens to be powered by electric. For some like myself it won out versus all the MEB, Tesla, Korean, MG and BMW EVs, not in EV terms, but as a car.

That’s not bragging because it’s a great EV, but despite it being a EV. Ironically owning any EV has absolutely zero bragging rights in the grand scheme of things to brag about. Bragging about owing any EV is like bragging you are vegan, or a tree hugging hippy. Most people just think you are a frootloop and think “I wonder if they are on day release from the institution”.

Hmmm, interesting that hundreds of millions of people world wide dont agree with the opinion here on this forum/thread regarding the I-pace.

Been inside two ipace and been in the passenger side of one for a 3hr one way trip. Nice interior but nothing spectacular and as far as an EV it is well old. Every aspect of that car is behind the curve. I even say it looks dated some what from the outside. Again that’s personal opinion.

But near 0 sales figure world wide clearly indicates it is the prevailing opinion.

Anyways, feel the Koreans (Hyundai/Kia/Genesis) has much better interior layout and makes you feel you are driving a car that’s futuristic not a yesterday car.
