when did this change?

Could custom fit an optical drive vertically to the right of the glass panel in a Lian-Li O11 Mini. A laptop style drive might be ideal especially if it was a slot rather than tray drive. :D

Exactly this, I have an LG External DVD/CD rewriter if needed which isn't that often, not sure if it will work with windows 10 though saying that:(
I installed the Need for Speed Most Wanted 2005 CD on Windows Server 2019 (basically same as Windows 10) using a USB external drive that hadn't been used for more than a decade. Had to mod the game to get it to run but the resources available these days for such things is amazing.

I'm pretty sure I had that on PSP:D can't really remember how old my drive is??? Although I do remember I bought it from Currys.

I've been enjoying playing it again, at first using the Iris Pro iGPU in a 5675C CPU (ran ok even at 4K resolution) and more recently on a 980 TI. I'm looking forward to playing Need for Speed Rivals after I've completed it. I've still got my PSP. It should still be in mint condition, will have to dig it out see if it still works. :)

I remember Rivals too :) unfortunately my PSP is long gone, though I think I still have the Tribal Nintendo Advance somewhere

If I'm to buy a massive great full tower case, I want 5.25" bays, period.

If I wanted a damn imac, I'd buy a imac.

exactly this. I love some of these new larger towers but without a 5.25 I have nowhere to put my Aquaero. Also I am a bit old fashioned and like to have the physical CD/DVD/Bluray etc and it means I dont have to subscribe to 10+ on demand services to get a good library of films/music. I am not a fan of the "never own, always rent" society we are now.

Back to cases... I can fully understand smaller cases not having an option for 5.25 bays, its obvious why but for large cases there should be an option even at the expense of looks and fans etc. I would even take a hidden 5.25 bay that you had to flip a panel open or open the side to access. at least it gives you the option.

To suit all needs not many want a bay anymore, taste is a subjective.
Except that there are no more cases for different tastes with every maker imintating all the lamest fads to every model.

At this rate my 2008 Lian Li PC-A71B is going to keep collecting whole lots of usage years, because of being unable to find case not raped by fashion.

For the first time I played safe and went with a popular case, the O11 XL.
Love the case, but if I was in the market for something different I would most likely go with Raijintek. Quite peculiar design, just not familiar with the built quality.
Thermaltake tries, sometimes too hard, but as much as I try, I can't convince myself of any of their cases. All seems very plastic, or a pinball machine.
I believe the HDD cages on the O11 can be converted to install an optical drive, vertical, but I think it's possible. Just won't be too practical at the back of the case, but for some, better than an external one.
