When did you realise you were officially old?

When I realised a significant number of my favourite pop songs are older now than when I was hearing them new compared to songs from the 1960s

This is so true! I remember Guns 'n' Roses releasing Appetite for Destruction like it was yesterday. But 34 years before that (that's how long ago it was) - Elvis Presley had only just made his first recording and Bill Haley and his Comets had the first ever Rock 'n' Roll single to make the charts, which seemed like ancient history at the time to me.

none of them doing a trade and/ or apprenticeship? Ridiclious the amount of people that go to university now

Maybe they want to be professionals (Doctors, Laywers, Teachers, Scientists) rather than enter the trades?

I find that most of the people I socialise with have kids entering professions - it's probably a class thing.

shouldnt have been fittest in your 30`s, you probably just tried harder in your 30`s. As i tried to say in my post if someone who is getting on feels best when older then they didnt take advantage of their youth.
am at a loss ? why could you not hit peak fitness in your thirty's ? i was very active in my youth basketball ,lacrosse ,bike riding was even on the jr high wrestling team ..there are loads of athletes who peak in there 30's ..
i do think you will find that most over 40 had loads more to do when younger as we din't have mobiles and pc's so we were always out and about .. running playing and just being fit .. prob why all the 20-30 yr olds in this thread feel old ..

40 onwards. I'm 43 next month.

There is a growing list of people still in their 30s and I've been telling tell, under no circumstances turn 40. They say that life beings at 40. My ass. It's been dog **** so far.

Just don't turn 40, ok!

As for feeling old, that would be starting at 35. That's because in the Premier Inn satisfaction survey, the age demographics are like 25-34, 35-44, 45-54, 55-64 etc, so when I turned 35, I ticked the next age group.

"The tragedy of old age is not that one is old, but that one is young"

I'm 44 and still feel and act like a teenager. Sometimes when I catch a glimpse of my reflection and see a middle aged man, I don't recognize him!

I found youth had so many advantages, get fit faster, stay fit for longer, get less injuries, recover faster, could build and retain muscle much easier, more supple.

Addendum - Nothing makes you older than threads like this, where people less than half your own age are whining about being "old"...!!!

Streamers on twitch at 27 complaining to their viewers they're now old.:cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry::cry:

Some 20 year old women when the lockdown officially ended complaining they've now missed life at 19 for partying. No face palms available.

What the hell is wrong with some people dude!

The day I knew I needed glasses. Only 0.25 long sighted but I could tell that day from the minute I opened my eyes.

Turning 40 isn't so much of a problem. 40 doesn't feel much different than 39.

The problem though is the journey from 40 to 50. Unlike the teens, 20s and 30s where you get stronger and fitter as you get older, 40 is the point where you start to go downhill.

40 itself is fine, 41 you start to notice the odd niggle, 42 the odd twinge, 43 a cricked neck, 44 niggles, twinges and cricked necks and so on and so on....until you hit 50.

Enjoy!

I used to go climbing at an indoor wall on a local university campus. The day we used go climbing, was the same night as the cheap student club night in the union, so you'd get a procession of 18/19/20 year old girls in tiny outfits tottering down to the club night. I used to drive to the wall and enjoy the view as I passed through campus. The day I knew I was old was when I drove in and thought "aren't you cold in that, love? Shouldn't you have a coat on?" instead.

Quite a number of years ago a well known referee got pushed and fell over and it was very amusing because of how he fell.
The older blokes at work said that's how an old bloke falls but us younger ones laughed it off saying he took a dive.
When I fell in that exact way was the time I realised I was old.

Found it, 16 seconds

I feel old everytime I look at social media or go out for a drink. I tend not to do either these days.

The one thing that is worse than getting old is people getting old but trying vainly to stay as young as possible. Filters, surgery, injections, going to the gym for unhealthy amounts, spending more money than they have trying to achieve it. One day they will turn around and just be old and will have missed out on getting old gradually and be nothing but miserable as a result.
Just go with it I say

Says who? speaking from experience?

It depends on the context. I remember a month ago, I found an old 5p in the 10p coins in a till. Those who can’t/don’t remember, the old 5p was the same size as the current 10p.

shown a few colleagues- most never have seen them as the old 5p coins were withdrawn end of 1990. Think anyone under 35, won’t remember them.

Then I talk to older people and they think. I’m young

And then it gets even worse after 50 I imagine? :(

That was the big thick 5p pentagon right? Then they went mini. Big thick 5ps to the Ice Cream vans in the 80s.

I had forgotten about that.
