Please remember that any mention of competitors, hinting at competitors or offering to provide details of competitors will result in an account suspension. When do you really benefit from more than 6 cores in real-world scenarios?

I moved from Excel + Access to Alteryx + Tableau and man, it was like a 10X improvement as well as enabling use cases that previously required external consultants. Modern advanced analytics tools enable miracles in productivity and automation!
We have a large analytics unit now that use tableau and a tableau server. We use power Bi and SSRS. Data gets staged from SQL transformed via SSIS. But these are dedicated skillsets. Most normal users don't have them, or have a licence.

Regardless of all that Excel is used heavily everywhere across our business. Lots of people want the final output in Excel. Almost no VBA in use. I just know VBA because I did a lot of development in it in the past. If you can code properly it's very powerful.

Of course you can have Excel linked to SQL doing all the heavy lifting on the server. Thing about Office etc is all client side. No one wants to run things on client. But if you do it helps to know what limits you have with multi threaded and single thread apps and get the best out of your hardware. But almost no one does this anymore.

Having said all that, it's mainly video where I push the multi threaded hardware these days. Or having lots of big apps open at the same time.
