Okay I have never used Bcc!

I need to send an email to some friends

I read that you should put your name or your website link or just the name of your site in the 'To field' and leave the cc field out and place any email address separated by commas into the Bcc field. This way your friends won't be able to see each others email addresses only mine. But I also heard sometimes it doesn't work and there can be an error and the people you send the email to ends up seeing all the other email addresses. Is this true? It's my understanding that you can only see the other email address if you do not fill out the Bcc field but infact fill in the cc field. What do I do?

many thanks in advance

Edit: what is sending an email to undisclosed recipients, I thought that is Bcc?

My understanding is the same - BCC being 'blind carbon copy' means that those in that list will not be able to see others in the list, only the name in the 'TO' field. I have used this several times successfully, I have not heard of it going wrong.

Give it a try with some consenting friends, and I think you'll find it's OK.

many thanks for all the replies

I have yahoo com and uk accounts is that okay? Will email addresses stay hidden in Bcc?

But what if I send out to people with other email accounts like hotmail and outlook etc, is it possible that they will end up seeing the other users?

I don't think you know what it means just yet.

Try it.. put one email address in the TO email address and then to the BCC address and then see what happenes.

It doesn't matter what email account you use, BCC is a universal "service".

I wouldn't worry about any holes in the system, you aren't working for MI5 are you? Your informant won't worry about his address being found by your double-agent boss :p

Addresses in the To field = Visible to all who get email.

Addresses in the BCC field = Visible to no-one.

i think he is worrying as he doesn't want the people who receives the spam to know it was sent to many many other email addresses and automatically know it's spam

I'd point out that it's against Yahoo's T&C to spam people. Just thought I'd should mention it if you thought it was a good idea to send a million people a link to your website/trying to sell your book or something..

Thanks for the replies,

I am not doing any spam or anything like that

I just got some people who bought some products from my store and needed to send out some emails, as they all bought the same product. I used an email template and didn't want each customer to see each others email address.
