When Gary met Diego

Just been watching that Pele video and whilst there are some sublime pieces of skill, I can't help but think that the defending against him was woeful :p

Thats the first proper video of Pele I've seen though. Will watch it all later when I have some more time. I've always considered Maradona the better player as I've seen more of him. Been waiting to see a video like this for a long time!

It was the first proper video I've seen of Pele as well. Until now I've only seen the odd goal e.g. the one against Sweden and his dummy against Uruguay (iirc). I did think he was little overrated in the past but now I'm convinced he was the greatest ever.

@Nedved11, Pele may have scored the majority of his goals in the Brazilian league but you can even some from that video he can score at ease against Milan, Benfica etc.

You can't hold it against Pele that he played in great teams he can hardly change his nationality, I'm totally convinced that if Pele played in any weaker team he would still be as good, obviously I can't prove this but you can't dissprove it either.

first of all im about to be sick , on that pele video (great by the way)there was a link to a video called hockey keeper gets jugular sliced open..............i heavily advise against watching it :o

imo its not woeful defending in the pele video its just they didnt know how to cope with such good control of the ball . nowadays players will defend against such movements every training session , back then only a handful of players had such skills.

both great players

the documentary should be good :)

That was a good watch. Amazed to see him playing a football game!

Seems to be enjoying himself now, and its good to see Lineker has let bygones be bygones.

I enjoyed it, lollerskates at the argument with Baiano, @ the fight with Bilbao, great to see that he's well again :)

Nice daughters too ;)

One question - how come Lineker speaks Spanish that well, did he play there for a time?

I like Linekar, he has always been the unbiased type unlike most. He has seen what football is like and has been successful out of England. It opens your eyes and makes you less narrow minded somewhat.

Did he play in spain??

HELL YES!!

He played for Barcelona and scored a hat trick against Real Madrid :D

1986/87
Barcelona
41 games
21 goals

1987/88
Barcelona
36 games
16 goals

That fight was , full bloody kicks!!

Lineker was there during the Venables era along with Mark Hughes and Steve Archibald

Yep, but he must have had some lessons to still be so fluent.

What cracked me up was when Marodona's accomplice answered the door and started speaking English and asked if anyone spoke Spanish :D Linekars Spanish is brilliant but the guy just wanted to sound clever with his English :o

Ah right, didn't realise! He did really well for them!

I Thought something was amiss when he said that he spoke "castillian" to that odd looking bloke at the house. Means he probably speaks catalan as well :)

I enjoyed it despite it being a little short and not really revealing anything most people wouldn't have known.

Comes across as a nice, down to Earth kind of guy.

It was a great watch for me, I even started to think that Diego is modest man until he was at the stand at the Boca Juniors game, lappin up all the glory. :p

110% absolute legend.

He did well in Spain, but was also considered a failure by some sections of the Spanish media! he couldn't wait for his move to Napoli.

Of course he lapped up the crowd at the Boca match - it's HIS club, he loves it, and the fans - perhaps some of the passionate on Earth - are adoring him - anyone would bask in that glory.

The Greatest Player Ever.
