My Wii has started to play up after a prolonged gaming session at the weekend at a friends house.
Initially it was simply drive read errors, I assumed it was the disk which had been in and used for a good two hours, so I took it out and turned everything off. As it happens it was a few hours before we started playing again, this time with a new game (Brain academy), straight away I could hear the disk spinning up - fairly loudly and ejected it, put another disk in (mario striker) which did the same.
Checked the fan at the back - nothing in it making a noise.
Tried a further 3 disks, most of which are brand new and they all do the same. Whether it's on it's side or lying flat the Wii is noisy when a disk is in - silent when one isn't.
It's got the latest firmware etc etc but frankly it's the drive, you can hear it spinning up just like any knackered PC drive does.
My thoughts are its heat related, my Wii sits horizontally and I wouldn't be surprised if a component has overheated, screw worked it's way loose etc and is causing this.
I've e-mailed nintendo about it, I'll see if they give me any ideas, the unit is less than two months old.
