Hi,

Got me a job offer and will sign and send it back to my new employer.

What I need to understand is.. when should I hand in my resignation letter to my present employer?

Could I do it having the offer in hand, or should I wait until the offer letter is back in the post?

Please help cos I really want to quit!

Cheers

How much do you rely on the income?

I personally would wait until the new job is absolutely 1000% confirmed.

Personally I would never resign from a job until I had a signed contract for a new job in my hand.....

The safest, and probably the most imorral thing to do, is wait untill you actually start work with the new employer, then hand your notice in and call in sick at the same time, for your entire notice period.

Dont bet on getting a reference or going back though!

Anyone that has any concern for their professional reputation should not do this. Whether or not a reference is required from these employers, this tactic is dangerous at best and could come back to bite you on the derriere.

And you know they have received.

They may do what my company did, and hire someone only to unhire him about a week before he was due to start :(

Not sure how that was "resolved".
