When is my last day at work?

Right, I have a 4 week notice period in my contract and I handed in my notice at 9am on Monday 17th January. Is my last day:

a) Friday 11th February

b) Monday 14th February

I thought it would be the Monday, but the missus says it should be on the Friday. HR agree with me but I am wondering if I'm wrong and so I thought I'd get the right answer from OCUK...

Friday 11th.

If you go to work on the Monday, that is 4 weeks and one day as, you went to work 4 weeks prior and completed a full day.

It would have probably been the Monday if you'd waited till 5pm to give your notice, though.

it would be friday minus any holiday hours they owe you.

Generally you get paid for the holidays if you are in any way important. 4 weeks isn't a whole load of time for a hand over.

I had a letter of compulsory redundancy on friday 4th feb (after many consultation meetings) I am now off work and at the end of feb will receive my January pay plus 4 weeks redundancy pay plus holidays for Jan. Am I lucky to not have to work my notice or do many companies allow you not to work it if you dont want?

You're being made redundant, completely different situation. If you hand your notice in you normally work it unless the company decide differently for various reasons.

I've never known anyone to come back in the office after being made redundant.

I'm having to work my redudancy notice period (well I say work, I turn up.). I got notified towards the end of November and finally leave at the end of March.

It really can't come quickly enough.
