When it comes to IOS as a gaming device

This thread is becoming as immature as an Xbox vs PS3 thread. They are both good platforms in their own way and why would developers not make games for both to reach as much of the market as possible.

Not really. It's a discussion. Can't see anything "immature" in this thread.

Moving away from the frankly inevitable Android vs. iOS argument :p

The problem with the iPhone for gaming is the lack of any inputs other than the touch screen (and accelerometer if you count that as a useful input). Physical buttons may be old fashioned but my god they work wonderfully. On a touch screen not only is there no tactile feedback, but the buttons either cover the view or the view is made smaller so the buttons can be fitted around it (which on a 3.5" screen isn't exactly ideal). Physical buttons get round both of those problems.

Ok, Immature is probably too strong a word. But it has turned into an Android vs IOS debate rather than a discussion whether IOS and perhaps other mobile phone/tablet OSs should be considered as a serious gaming platform.

I agree with ThomBassmonkey, the touchscreen doesn't work for me, mainly for games where the "buttons" are on the screen. However for games like Angry Birds I think it is good and great for mre casual games. Saying that, my experience is on my HTC Desire and Iphone 3GS, I haven't used a tablet for games.

Oh well back to talking about the actual games rather than the OS.

I love gaming on both my pad and phone.

Fav games so far are Army of Darkness which is free on both phone and pad. Lovely game, great fun.

Also find Plane tycoon way too addictive, although I hate in game purchases with a passion.

Burn the rope is excellent and challenging. Of course cut the rope is the nuts.

Geo defense although it's damn hard :)

Generally speaking, 99% of mobile games are throw-away junk. There are a few good ones on there but not many.

Fixed! :p

I think i'm just too stuck in my ways for all these touch screen based games. When i go see my lil bro he can play them all like a BAWS. I'm just hopeless.

Only apps i actual use are the music production ones.

Galaxy s2 is more powerful then the ipad2 in tech vs tech....sorry.

Can we please stop all the stupid bickering about hardware and iOS vs Android?

The whole point of this conversation is about how these work as true gaming devices.

Further to my earlier comment, I agree that many games don't work as well as something with tactile buttons, such as racing games. However, maybe I'm getting old, but I'd much rather have a phone or iPad for a quick more casual game, rather than carry around a more serious gaming handheld when I'm only going to play it for a few minutes somewhere.

Sgs2 plus wiimote plus psx, snes, mega drive, gba emulators thrashes the pants off anything these crap touch screen games can offer. Coupled with hdmi output it's fantastic.

Absolutely having the flexability of a device that can have many uses is a huge advantage.

I really dont understand why the thread title is specific to Ios, if the op want to talk ios only games apple users have an entire sub forum to go post in.

Oh and Logsi you completely missed the point your choice of platform is decided by apple and like a sheep you will follow £600 for a new handset which i am pretty sure will be dated compared to other handsets when its released but knock yourself out, if its a basic os you want then thats what you get with ios.

I quite like my iPad or my iPhone for some mobile gaming. Ok they aint perfect but they are very good at what they do if a tad over priced.

If im stuck on a plane for 14 hours then the iPad will last me most of the flight once you have eaten etc and its great for just picking up emails and browsing. even a quick spread sheet.

Some of the games are great allot of them are ok and all of them are cheaper than either a DS or PSP title for a device that has much more use in everyday life.

Frankly you can see why piracy is rampant on handhelds like the DS not only is it easy but the games are overpriced. even on the iPad everything is under £10 and most are under £2

Gaming on a mobile platform has its advantages. Personally I can't stand FPS games or any that involve touch controls or the accelerometer.

Thankfully though, with a Samsung Galaxy S 2 you can connect it to a large screen TV and play games with installed emulators. So a proper game like Mario Kart whenever you want anyone? ;)

This is even more nice since TVs are going to start having MHL connections built into them!
